About this opportunity: The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Camp Music Conservatory Senior Music and Arts Instructor for the Arkansas and Oklahoma Conservatory of Music and Arts, located in Welling, OK.
This is a summer position at Camp Heart O’ Hills. The position summary identifies the essential functions and requirements of this position. The incumbents may be requested to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in this position summary.
The Senior Music and Arts Instructor position involves teaching or assisting classes in the instructor’s area of artistic discipline. Classes are organized into majors and minors, including brass band, percussion, guitar, praise band, dance, theater, piano, or visual arts. Every student also takes chorus.
Key Responsibilities:
- Promote a safe and stimulating learning environment for students that facilitates personal, artistic, and spiritual growth.
- Serve as the main instructor in a major or minor listed above or assist Studio Coordinators and conservatory directors.
- Teach private lessons focusing on technique and repertoire, preparing students for solo performances.
- Teach a music theory class and participate in a chorus.
- Attend staff meetings, Bible Studies, worship services, night programs, and Evensong.
- Provide excellent instruction, create lesson plans, schedule private lessons, grade assignments, monitor student progress, and prepare students for recitals and performances.
- Maintain equipment, report supply needs to the Conservatory Director, and assist with program activities.
- Ensure student behavior aligns with camp rules, provide guidance, and maintain a clean living environment.
What we are looking for in you:
- Knowledge of child and youth behavior and development principles.
- Ability to ensure the safety of students and staff.
- Strong planning, development, and facilitation skills for youth programs.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to mentor students.
- Knowledge of music education principles and the ability to teach music theory and classes in group or private settings.
- One year of experience teaching in your artistic discipline preferred, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with groups.
- Visual and auditory ability to assess behavior and respond to emergencies.
- Physical ability to supervise students and apply first aid.
- Must possess strength and endurance for constant supervision.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks.
- Willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours.
- Exposure to varying environmental conditions.

Additional Information:
Camp Staff Orientation will be held 06/11/2025 – 06/15/2025, and participation is required. The 2025 summer camp program will be held 6/16/2025 – 07/20/2025. If you are unable to work the entire session, please let us know on your application.
