Position Title: Photo Asset Coordinator/Photographer

Department: Digital

Reports to: Director of Digital

FLSA Status: Part-time Seasonal, Non-exempt

Compensation: $40 per hour

Term: 20 hours per week; 4–6 months

Position Description:

Brooklyn Botanic Garden (BBG) is a treasured natural space, esteemed for its plant collections and design, educational programs, and public events. Photographs and video are essential means to convey the Garden’s story across media including web, email, social, and print. BBG seeks a part-time asset coordinator to help maintain digital image files, support staff and outside photographers, assist with special projects, and document the Garden’s collections and programs through photography and video.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage image files and maintain digital image archives on various platforms. Accurately identify and label images and upload to the Garden’s servers, being mindful of format and content standards.
  • Research image libraries to identify photo options for staff producing email, reports, and other materials.
  • Identify and optimize images for bbg.org.
  • Support staff and outside photographers who contribute images and video:
    • Convey content objectives and file standards.
    • Provide tips to nonprofessional photographers.
    • Transfer and QA image files.
    • Perform color correction, cropping, and optimization when needed.
    • Perform video edits, including titles and closed captioning.
  • Help document the Garden’s collections, programs, and events in photographs and video:
    • Capture marketing-quality images of visitors engaging with the Garden’s plants and programs.
    • Photograph ephemeral blooms and events.

Qualifications:

  • Detail-oriented approach to projects; ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Experienced in Adobe software suite.
  • Proficiency with high-quality digital photography and video capture and post-production.
  • Experience with web content management systems and HTML.
  • Excellent eye for clean composition.
  • Command of the English language and ability to follow house style.
  • Flexible schedule with ability to cover occasional weekend and/or evening events required.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with garden plants and botanical nomenclature.
  • Experience producing and editing audio.
  • Understanding of digital file organization and metadata best practices; experience with photo archiving systems.
