The comprehensive list of course opportunities and activities offered through the Punahou Theatre program includes a range of curricular classes offered during the regular school day; after-school and summer course offerings for grades K-8; co-curricular mainstage productions for Academy and Middle School students; and a capstone experience for seniors (Variety Show).

The Assistant Technical Director will provide assistance to the Technical Director on a daily basis. This position will also assist the Technical Director in producing shop and/or construction drawings for use in producing scenic units for productions. The Assistant Technical Director is responsible for assisting the Technical Director in the implementation and supervision of student crews in the execution of the scenic designs for all the productions, both mainstage and black box, including their creation, transportation, installation, and removal.
Within the school setting, the Assistant Technical Director may teach courses in technical theatre and design for middle school-age students during the after-school or summer months, depending on the needs of the program. The Assistant Technical Director will also occasionally support the TD with Academy level coursework. When summer programming includes a production component, the ATD will be responsible for leading all student teams in the design and implementation of scenic and technical elements for the production.
Position Details:
- Work Year: 10.5 months
- Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30AM - 5:00PM. Occasional Saturdays and later evenings/weekends for rehearsals and productions. Schedule may vary based on operational needs.
- Starting Annual Salary*: $62,775

Pay for selected candidates will be determined by various factors such as knowledge, skills, abilities, relevant training and experience, and internal equity.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Theatre, Masters preferred.
- Two (2) years of successful experience in technical theatre.
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability in theatre production including set, light and sound design.
- Demonstrated success in leadership and classroom management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel) and Google applications.
- Flexibility to meet job requirements beyond the school day and school year.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple tasks during a consistently high demand and deadline sensitive school year.
- Ability to communicate well with multiple constituencies, including students, parents, colleagues, boosters, and external organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize technology that is effectively integrated into the curriculum and to enhance communication and productivity including but not limited to theatrical lighting, audio, video, special effects and scenic construction.
- Familiarity with the mission, goals and objectives of an independent school environment.
