The UI Heart and Vascular Center (HVC) is seeking a full-time Clinical Practice Leader to provide leadership in clinical care coordination/specialized nursing care, clinical education of nursing staff and health professionals, and use clinical nursing expertise in improving nursing and health care for the UI Heart and Vascular Center (HVC) including the Pre/Post and Procedural Units (Adult Cardiac, Vascular, and EP Labs, CPRU, and HVC Minor Procedure Suite).

Position Responsibilities:

Provide Leadership & Oversight for Specialized Services or Populations

  • Lead clinical care delivery for the HVC Pre/Post and Procedural Units and focus on improving patient outcomes and nursing care through evidence-based practice and research. Assure competency of the staff in these units.
  • In collaboration with the Procedural Nurse Manager, oversee all onboarding/training for new staff in the HVC Pre/Post and Procedural Units nursing/clinical and designated support staff.
  • Collaborate with the Procedural Nurse Manager in the implementation HVC Pre/Post and Procedural Units’ strategic plan(s) as it relates to clinical care delivery, patient outcomes and nursing care.
  • Model and ensure patient and family-centered care for the HVC Pre/Post and Procedural Units.

Specialized Services for Nursing Care

  • Facilitate evidence-based projects for the HVC Pre/Post and Procedural Units and incorporate findings from these projects into clinical practice.
  • Participate in the assessment and evaluation of nursing care requirements and provide specialized nursing care to ensure that patient assignment system accurately and appropriately reflects patient care needs and staff capabilities to enhance the overall education, understanding and implementation of appropriate nursing practice.
  • Lead and facilitate interdisciplinary quality and process improvements for the HVC Pre/Post and Procedural Units.

Provide Education

  • Provide advanced HVC Pre/Post and Procedural Units specialty knowledge to healthcare staff, patients, students or residents. Communicate detailed, complex medical and technical information to a variety of audiences. Develop/conduct unit-based educational programs (orientation, in-services and specialized training).

Compliance with Internal Policies & External Regulations for Safe & Effective Care Delivery & Health Profession Education

  • Utilize knowledge and skill of compliance standards for HVC Pre/Post and Procedural Units. Lead implementation and development of HVC Pre/Post and Procedural Units policies and procedures and share responsibility for Quality Improvement (QI) plan with nursing practice leaders (NPL) and other nursing colleagues.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of standards of care for the HVC Pre/Post and Procedural Units that are consistent with current nursing practice.
  • Maintain knowledge of all regulatory and compliance standards impacting the HVC Pre/Post and Procedural Units, nursing practice and patient care.
  • Ensure staff understanding and maintenance of CMS standards for Patient Rights; other external standards; and UIHC policies, procedures, and standards of practice.

Human Resource Management

  • Supervise care delivery of nursing staff, students or residents for the HVC Pre/Post and Procedural Units providing evaluative feedback and recommendations regarding performance and development. Manage the performance of staff and assure compliance with appropriate policies and procedures for the assigned area.
  • Develop and lead a culture of evidence-based practice in the HVC Pre/Post and Procedural Units.

Other

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education Requirement:

Master’s or Doctorate Degree in Nursing required. If Master’s/Doctorate Degree in related field, Baccalaureate in Nursing required.

Experience Requirements:

  • Considerable clinical experience (minimum 3 years) and expertise in Adult Cardiac Catheterization and Electrophysiology Laboratory.
  • Knowledge and experience with evidence-based practice; outcomes-based practice and quality improvement; and staff education and development.
  • Strong leadership skills including analytical thinking/problem solving; self-starter and motivated; takes initiative; serves as change agent; leads change process including implementation of EBP; and motivates/influences others.
  • Demonstrates excellent team leadership, interpersonal skills, and collaboration with interdisciplinary team.
  • Strong verbal communication skills, including ability to articulate issues professionally, yet assertively and persuasively.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Ability to understand and deliver care in a complex and diverse environment.
  • Models professional practice and has reputation for clinical and service excellence.
  • Proficient in computer software applications.

Certification/Licensure Requirements:

  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa required.
  • BCLS certification required by start date.
  • ACLS certification required by start date.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) - Certification by the Commission on Nurse Certification.
  • Member/active participation in professional organization (i.e., ABCM).
  • Experience with Nursing Research.
  • Experience creating/managing microsystems of care.
