This is a temporary position.

Position:
Looking for upbeat, aggressive, visual show producer/writer to bring creative, fresh ideas to a newscast. This position would provide relief for vacation and sick calls.


Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Must have solid news judgment and ability to support overall quality of the newscast with keen eye for detail, including spelling, fact checking, balance and fairness.
  2. Create and write factual updated and compelling news copy that is aligned with news strategies. Strong tease and copy writing skills. Ability to order graphics.
  3. Strong communication skills.
  4. Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.
  5. Must be able to manage live on air and in control room decision making. Knowledge of control room automation preferred.
  6. Must ensure daily show production deadlines are met.
  7. Must be knowledgeable in digital/social media platforms and ability to contribute to station strategies.
  8. Proficient desktop editing skills required. Screen and edit from both linear and non-linear services to select relevant and engaging pictures and sound.
  9. Must be willing to work hours as assigned.
  10. This is a per diem position.
  11. This is a Writers Guild of America position and membership in WGA is required.
  12. Vacation-relief show producing duties.
  13. Other duties as assigned.


Core Competencies:

  1. Proven successful track record and innovative.
  2. Ability to write and edit broadcast copy and promotions.
  3. Ability to work under extreme deadline pressure.

Preferred Education and Experience Requirements:

  1. Two years’ experience as a newscast line producer, preferably in a top 20 market.
  2. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in journalism or similar field.
  3. Familiarity with Chicago area, desirable.

Additional Information:

Hourly Pay Range: $35.83 - $48.98 per hour.

The hiring range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington State, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
