Position Summary

SUNY Geneseo is excited to announce an opportunity to join our team as the College Advancement Communication Manager. As the lead storyteller for our advancement efforts and The Geneseo Foundation, this position is at the heart of crafting persuasive narratives that inspire action and foster meaningful connections.

The College Advancement Communication Manager will research, organize, and deliver powerful content for major fundraising campaigns, donor stewardship, and alumni engagement initiatives. They will leverage print, digital, and social media platforms to drive engagement and increase giving. Collaborating with campus leaders and accomplished alumni, the writer will uncover stories, facts, and successes highlighting the transformative power of giving back to Geneseo.

Working closely with the College Advancement and Communications & Marketing teams, the manager will ensure consistency across messaging and create compelling calls to action across all platforms. This dynamic role requires proven expertise in persuasive writing, the versatility to adapt tone and voice for diverse audiences—alumni, parents, corporate partners, and community groups—and the ability to turn complex information into cohesive and inspiring content.

They will have a demonstrated ability to acquire in-depth knowledge of the College, its programs and priorities and to synthesize disparate facts, trends and events into coherent and persuasive presentations on behalf of the college.

Flexible hybrid work arrangements may be an option subject to NYS , SUNY , and Geneseo rules, regulations, and policies.

Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree by time of appointment

  • Experience with copywriting for print, digital and social media platforms

  • Superior interpersonal and verbal communication skills

  • Collaborative mindset

  • Attention to accuracy and detail /strong copy editing and proofreading skills

  • Ability to work under a tight deadline

  • Commitment to DEIB principals

  • Minimum 2 years professional experience

Function 1: Fund for Geneseo

  • Work with the director of the Fund for Geneseo in developing a thematic multi-channeled, direct response marketing plan for unrestricted gifts to the Fund for Geneseo.

  • Work with the director of the Fund for Geneseo in the writing of each individual appeal and in the messaging around crowdfunding initiatives.

Function 2: Develop General Fundraising Messaging

  • Work collaboratively with the VPCA , the college advancement team, and the communications and marketing teams to develop overarching fundraising messaging and to develop messaging and collateral materials for key capital and program fundraising initiatives.

  • Develop communication plans for the distribution of targeted messaging across multiple communication platforms and to multiple constituent groups.

Function 3: Alumni Relations

  • Work with the director of alumni relations on the design and copy for event invitations, the promotion of events through social media, email and the college advancement website and storytelling about the success of alumni events across multiple channels.

  • Work with the board liaison in preparing and proofing board meeting materials.

  • Serve as the staff liaison to the Board’s communication committee.

  • Prepare an annual report on the Foundation’s performance for distribution to key constituents.

  • Work with the director of donor relations in preparing annual impact report statements for distribution to donors of endowed funds in the fourth quarter of the calendar year.
