This position is responsible for leading the editing and production of high-quality live action and animated videos from concept to delivery, with a focus on advanced editing and motion graphics. The incumbent develops and maintains standards for efficient editing workflows, file organization and sharing technologies. Collaborates with other team members and outside departments to help develop video ideas, write, and edit scripts and produce storyboards and other visuals. Incumbent will also assist in the hiring and supervision of freelancers and will coordinate with staff and affiliates as needed. Performs additional media services such as, but not limited to, media monitoring, audio recording and engineering, event video production and related contractor management. DUTIES: Uses video editing software (e.g. Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve) to assemble raw footage into polished, high-quality videos. Cuts and trims footage, adds transitions, and adjusts pacing to enhance storytelling. Develops and maintains visual standards for motion graphics, overlays, and bumpers. Develops and documents best practices and standards for efficient editing workflows, including file organization and sharing technologies, editing project layout, and motion graphics templates. Schedules, films, and directs remote interviews with members and others. Reviews rough cuts and work from junior staff and freelancers and makes recommendations to senior staff members. Maintains calendar and task statuses in project management software. Conducts staff and member video and editing trainings. Assists in all video asset management and archiving activities. Serves as the department lead for in-house photography. Oversees the planning, execution, and quality of all photographic projects to ensure they align with the brand’s creative vision and standards. Performs other duties as required to support the department and its mission. REQUIREMENTS: Education and Experience : Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with coursework in film or electronic media production, journalism, communications with a minimum of five (5) years of experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: Skills : Advanced multi-format video and audio editing skills using Adobe Creative Cloud software. Proficient in motion graphics, brand design, and multitrack audio editing. Proficient with camera equipment with expertise in operating DSLRs, mirrorless cameras, lighting, and other photography tools. Familiarity with creative tools for mobile platforms such as Premier Rush, Canva, and Adobe Express. Demonstrated creative style diversity, with the ability to create content for campaigns with various audiences. Must possess the ability to think critically and raise questions about project concepts and requirements when appropriate. Must possess a demonstrated ability to make sound decisions about edits, cuts for time, aesthetic calls, etc. to produce high-quality deliverables for final approval. Ability to work on several projects at once, in a fast-paced environment. Travel/Work Hours : Ability to travel for AFSCME business, including political and organizing campaigns required. Extended hours including weekends required to complete projects and support organizing campaigns. Valid driver’s license required.
