Position Purpose:

The Grant Manager/Writer oversees the process and production of all materials related to the grant application process by researching, preparing, submitting, and managing grant proposals/reports that support tribal goals and meet funder guidelines and criteria. The Grant Manager will serve as a grant writer, engage in compliance reporting, and support special project initiatives while working closely with grant/program staff, leadership, accounting, and other grant writers to ensure procedural compliance, record-keeping, and financial reporting of all grants including Self-Governance funding, is accurate and timely.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates requests/needs for future grants that comply with the approved Mission and Vision of the Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma. Works with staff to write, develop, and transform ideas into grant proposals.
  • Maintains current knowledge of changing or updated regulations, requirements, and laws with the ability to read, comprehend, and provide interpretation of those requirements to tribal personnel.
  • Coordinate, and assist as needed, with personnel that directs various grants/programs to ensure compliance with approved tribal policies and procedures, all applicable regulations, and OMB circulars.
  • Reconciles grant expenses and activities in compliance with grant terms and conditions, monitoring reporting deadlines, monitoring grant budgets, and working with division directors to ensure that funds are neither over nor underspent. Provides budget status reports, detailed transaction reports, projections, and other reports to leadership, division directors, and program managers.
  • Assists accounting personnel with preparation for audits associated with grants, programs, and contracts.
  • Reviews grant award notices and takes appropriate action to assign and set up new fund accounts. Performs and assists with award receipt, and the monitoring and management of sponsored award spending and revenue generation projects.
  • Develop grant project monitoring plans and corrective action plans for all grant projects for effectiveness and efficiency in grant compliance, financial and required regulations, and standard terms and conditions of grants and Tribal policies throughout the year. Design and perform grant-specific technical assistance that aims to build internal grant management capacity and address specific grant corrective action plans.
  • Builds grant reporting dashboard and calendar. Makes assignments as necessary.
  • Other duties that may be assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Previous tribal grant writing, administration, and/or management required.
  • Proven track record of acquiring grants and other financial resources for Tribal entities preferred.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically.
  • Excellent organizational and management skills, with excellent attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
  • Exceptional analytical skills, research ability, good judgment, and the ability to present information and ideas clearly and succinctly to financial professionals and non-professionals is essential.
  • Recognition that in order to serve the Peoria People one must know as much as possible about the Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma, by possessing knowledge of the Constitution, as well as other enacted Acts and Codes.
  • Must be able to handle confidential and sensitive material/information with discretion.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a cross-functional team environment. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as people skills.
  • Proficiency with computers and programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint as well as financial accounting software.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field with four years job specified experience.
  • Employee must be willing to acquire any special certification or attend any training that is determined to be relevant or becomes required of the position in the future.
  • Candidates with equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered.

Work Requirements:

Position involves prolonged sitting, standing, stooping, bending, lifting, or carrying up to 30 pounds on a daily basis. Work is generally performed in an office environment with varying levels of lighting, air quality, noise, and/or temperature.
