Job Summary

This position is responsible for teaching classes, workshops, and residencies at Company locations, schools and in the community, directing youth theater and artistically contributing to main stage productions and school tours. This position also assists Education Director in the creation and facilitation of Every Single Child program, year-long, and summer programming schedule.

  • Create lesson plans, and collect data, in collaboration with the Education Director, for the Every Single Child Program.
  • Assist Education Director and Education Administrator with scheduling.
  • Assist with onboarding, training, and mentorship of summer interns and year-long fellows.
  • Create lesson plans and teach workshops, residencies, classes, and camps as scheduled.
  • Contribute artistically in touring educational theater plays.
  • Supervise students, fellows, summer interns, contract teachers, and volunteers.
  • Direct Teens N Theater and Youth Productions as assigned.
  • Act, direct, or write plays as assigned.
  • Train and support teaching artists and contract teachers.
  • Provide narrative, statistics, and other information as needed to the grant writer for reports.
  • Mentor one Teaching Artist Fellow, including one scheduled meeting per month.
  • Operate within the approved annual budget under the supervision of the Education Director.

Other Job Duties

  • Attend all necessary meetings including department, all-staff and other meetings as needed.
  • Participate in company events/activities as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Education Director.

Education, Training and Experience

  • B.A. or B.F.A. in theater or equivalent professional experience.
  • Theater training in acting and directing.
  • Teaching experiences with wide range of ages, cultures, ethnicity, and backgrounds.
  • Experience using drama to teach curriculum topics.
  • Problem solving and customer service skills.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with a wide variety of people.
  • Time management and organizational skills to prioritize tasks and assignments.

Skills and Abilities

  • An understanding and commitment to Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression principles and practices.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with employees at all levels within the organization.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to use Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
  • Act as a representative of The Theater at all times, providing excellent customer service to members, patrons, vendors and staff.
  • Maintain current certification in CPR/1st Aid.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Ability to stand or kneel for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift at least 25lbs.
  • Climbing and ascending multiple flights of stairs.
  • On-site attendance is required.
