Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group (MAPMG) invites applications for a Health Promotion Educator to join our Health Promotion and Engagement department. This position is a full-time opportunity based out of our regional office located in Washington D.C. with a hybrid work model.

Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group is comprised of more than 1,700 Permanente physicians and nearly 300 staff professionals who come together to make a positive impact on the health and lives of more than 800,000 members in Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia.

Reporting to a Health Engagement Manager, the Health Promotion Educator will help Kaiser Permanente members achieve their health goals, primarily focusing on weight loss and weight management. You will lead engaging, evidence-based education sessions, guide patients through resources available, and provide support through behavior change techniques. You will also collaborate with the health education team, share feedback to enhance programs, and reach out to patients to promote health initiatives.

You can expect to:

  • Facilitate evidence-based health education sessions focused on weight loss/management, utilizing behavior change and adult learning principles to engage individuals and groups
  • Connect patients to appropriate health education and clinical resources, helping them navigate available support for optimal health outcomes
  • Accurately document all patient interactions, health education activities, and outreach efforts in the EMR system, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with privacy standards
  • Collaborate with the health education team to offer feedback and insights, helping to improve program content, delivery, and participant experience
  • Proactively reach out to patients to raise awareness about available health programs, encouraging participation and engagement in health promotion initiatives
  • Implement innovative health practices within ethical guidelines, ensuring all programs align with organizational policies and best practices

What is required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Education, Health Promotion, Public Health, Psychology, or a related field is required
  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) credentials are preferred
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience leading health education classes with a focus on motivational interviewing, healthy lifestyle behavior change, and weight management
  • Experience with leading longitudinal programs such as the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) is preferred
  • Must be able to travel to the Kaiser Permanente Medical Centers in the Mid-Atlantic region as needed
  • Must be able to commute to Washington D.C. Capitol Hill office as needed
  • Candidates must either currently live in or be willing to relocate to the Washington D.C. metropolitan area
  • Strong knowledge of health education, adult learning theory, motivational interviewing, health behavior change, and the social determinants of health
  • Must provide documentation of the Covid vaccine 2-dose series (or J&J 1-dose) prior to October 1, 2023, or documentation for 1-dose of the most current Covid vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) as a condition of employment
  • Must provide documentation for the influenza vaccine as a condition of employment

The starting annual salary for this position ranges from $70,551.25 to $88,189.07 depending on circumstances including an applicant’s skills and qualifications, certain degrees and certifications, prior job experience, training, market data, and other relevant factors. In addition to the salary range above, MAPMG offers rich benefits that add substantial value to the total compensation package.
