The Senior UI/UX Software Engineer is responsible for implementing, integrating, and optimizing both on-premise and hosted systems, primarily using Java and web-based technologies, with a strong focus on user interface and user experience (UI/UX) design. This role incorporates a hands-on, agile, team-based approach to development while also providing leadership, mentoring, and coaching to less experienced engineers. The Senior UI/UX Software Engineer is tasked with producing and reviewing system documentation and requirements and leading UI/UX design reviews and meetings. They participate actively in defining the software engineering process and methodology, with an emphasis on UI/UX standards and best practices.
Essential Duties:
* Update and maintain a UI/UX style guide and design system, ensuring all teams can access current design principles, assets, and guidelines.
* Document user flows and interactions for complex features, ensuring developers and stakeholders understand the intended user experience.
* Review ongoing projects to ensure UI/UX guidelines and best practices are followed. Offer actionable feedback to development teams or individual developers on improving user interfaces or interactions.
* Create wireframes, mockups, or prototypes for new features or changes based on input from stakeholders, ensuring ideas are visually represented before development starts. Use tools like Sketch, Figma, Adobe XD, or InVision to turn concepts into visual representations quickly.
* Conduct quick usability testing sessions for ongoing or upcoming features, even if on a smaller scale.
* Analyze results to identify usability issues or areas of improvement and provide recommendations.
* Collect and prioritize user feedback from various channels (like support tickets, user forums, or beta testers).
Physical Demands: Sedentary work. Employee will need to be able to sit for long periods of time to work on a computer, as well as travel occasionally to meet with clients and customers on and off campus. May need to work evenings and/or weekends. This position is considered an essential position and may be required to work at the normal work location or an alternative location during a major catastrophic event, weather emergency, or other operational emergencies to help maintain continuity of University services.
Preferences:
* 5 or more years of experience in software design, focusing on UI/UX design principles and methodologies
* Experience with frameworks and libraries used in web applications and web services, including those specifically used for UI/UX design
* 2-years' experience engaging with customers and stakeholders to design the User Experience (UX) for an application.
* The ability to create a wireframes and assist in prototyping

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Four (4) years of professional experience supporting the operations, maintenance, and administration of information technology infrastructure.
Other:
* Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.
* Strong written and oral communication skills
* Ability to to lead presentations with small to medium sized groups
* Able to organize and provide direction to junior staff members
* A demonstrated commitment to customer service
* Provides leadership and helps bridge the gap between team manager and team members on technical topics
* Ability to effectively manage workload and delivery assignments on time
* Skilled in the use of office productivity software such as Office 365 or Google Workspaces
* Knowledge of and experience in established software engineering standards and methodologies including creation and use of use cases, UML modeling, source control, documentation, and unit, system, and integration testing.
* Knowledge of best practices in defining engineering standards, leading code reviews, and mentoring software engineers.
* Knowledge of developing custom interfaces and websites, using HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
* Knowledge of various software development methodologies with experience in Java or other high level languages
* Ability to create custom code that meets expectations.
* Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
* Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service and sensitivity to a culturally and ethnically diverse community.
