Location: Hybrid – Must be local to Chicago or Houston
Work Hours: 9 AM – 5 PM CST
Work Schedule: Hybrid, approximately once a week in the office
Duration: 6-month contract, with extensions very likely and potential to convert to Direct Hire down the line (will depend on budget and performance, Candidates may also apply for future full-time roles if available)

Overview
The Senior UX Designer will play a critical role in United’s Core UX team, focusing on enhancing the digital customer experience across all stages of the travel journey. This role involves defining and executing digital product strategies in collaboration with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate is an empathetic, innovative, and highly collaborative designer dedicated to delivering high-quality solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Visualize ideas using professional design tools, whiteboards, sketches, and prototypes
Identify user needs and business requirements through research and competitive analysis
Propose innovation and improvements based on insights and data
Substantiate design approaches with analysis and projected outcomes
Design & Refine
Ensure digital customer touchpoints align with United’s UX and brand standards
Design navigation schemes, UI patterns, and templates for a cohesive digital experience
Create low- and high-fidelity interactive prototypes in an iterative, collaborative process
Partner with usability researchers to refine designs based on user feedback
Define & Communicate
Develop design specifications, including process flows, wireframes, storyboards, mockups, and prototypes
Present design work to UX teams, product teams, and executives for feedback
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment throughout the design process
Work with developers, product managers, and QA to refine and implement designs
Mentor junior designers and provide UX guidance
Required Qualifications:
Education:
BA/BS in a relevant field or equivalent work experience
Experience:
5+ years of professional UX design experience required
8+ years preferred
Technical Skills:
Strong knowledge of UI design, information architecture, and interaction design best practices
Experience designing for accessibility and inclusivity
Proficiency in Figma and related UX/UI design tools
Soft Skills:
Ability to work in multidisciplinary, highly collaborative teams
Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple projects independently
