Brookside Charter School is a tuition-free public charter school serving Pre-K through 8th-grade students in Kansas City Public School (KCPS) boundaries. POSITION SUMMARY & PURPOSE
The Communication & Development Director will plan and implement a development and fundraising program to provide for the short- and long-term needs of Brookside Charter School. The Communication & Development Director will oversee all communications involving Brookside Charter School including the development and implementation of a communications strategy and a broad and diverse range of business and marketing communications. The Development Director will help to create and promote the corporate identity and mission to the public and employees through the creation and distribution of brochures, news releases, and other documents. The Communication & Development Director will identify and apply for various grants that meet Brookside Charter School's needs, overseeing the grant application process from beginning to end. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Human Capital
- Addresses complaints and grievances by parents, students, and staff.
- Commits to ongoing personal and professional development.
- Participates in a standards-based performance evaluation at least annually.
- Acts in accordance with a code of ethics appropriate to the position.
- Establishes fundraising objectives for the organization, setting one-year, five-year, and longer-term goals.
- Maintains a list of potential financial donors including corporations, foundations, and individuals.
- Produces relevant and informative fundraising literature for distribution to previous donors and the public.
- Researches potential sources of, and applies for, grants and public funding.
- Oversees the fundraising process and maintains records of receipts and disbursements of funds.
- Plans fundraising events that effectively communicate the purposes of the organization.
- Develops and implements a communications strategy for the Brookside Charter School that builds and maintains a positive corporate brand.
- Oversees Brookside Charter School communications and branding in various online and print platforms such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and industry magazines.
- Oversees the development and maintenance of the Brookside Charter School website including message delivery methods, ease of navigation, and clarity of information; ensures that all content is current and relevant.
- Provides consistent and timely information to employees through various communications programs.
- Acts as corporate spokesperson and responds to members of the media in a timely manner; composes and distributes press releases as needed.
- Develops and maintains positive professional relationships with various members of the media.
- Assists leadership in developing presentations, speeches, and other important corporate messages.
- Develops, implements, and adheres to communications budget.
- Develops, composes, distributes, and implements policies to enhance the efficiency of the communications department and to further develop the building and maintaining of a positive corporate brand.
- Oversees and produces, from concept to completion, a broad array of digital and/or print promotional and communication materials for Brookside Charter School.
- Ensures that all materials present a clear, unified, and positive image for the organization and/or brand.
- Plans, prepares, and distributes original promotional content such as articles, news and press releases, email, blog and social media posts, and other updates on behalf of Brookside Charter School.
- Promotes and attends special events and functions; promotes and reports on corporate milestones and activities such as company goals and projects; new products or services; community service activities; and new hires, promotions, and retirements.
- Arranges for photography and/or press coverage for special events.
- Researches various types of grants available and the criteria to qualify for each.
- Discusses available sources of funding with administrative managers.
- Compiles necessary information for the application process through collaboration with other employees, database research, and other fact-finding actions and meetings.
- Drafts and completes grant applications according to application requirements.
- Ensures grant is submitted on time and within application parameters.
- Completes all documents, forms, or reports required by the grant.
- Coordinates the monitoring and evaluation of programs and projects that are funded by grants.
- Develops and maintains master files on grants and paperwork connected to programs funded by grants.
- Ensures that Brookside Charter complies with and meets all deadlines associated with state, federal, and sponsor reporting and statutory requirements.
- Develops and maintains a productive and positive relationship with Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education staff.
- Ensures the lawful use of all Brookside Charter funds.

Education and Certifications
- Requires a Bachelor's Degree
- Related experience providing services for school-aged children preferred
- Proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office or equivalent software.
- Must possess excellent assessment, case management, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and outside agencies.
- Regular and dependable attendance
- Create within the school a climate of freedom to allow staff members and students to develop and perform to the extent of their capabilities.
- This position may require remaining stationary and/or moving for intermittent periods, as well as moderate dexterity in operating standard office equipment (e.g., computer, printer, copier).
- This position requires individuals with a range of visual acuity as well as the ability to communicate with others.
- May require some travel
