Job Duties
We are seeking an experienced Public Relations & Media Coordinator to join our team to provide a full spectrum of public relations. This position is responsible for interacting with the media, submitting news releases, preparing presentations, and managing the DGS website and all communications materials; developing and implementing plans and procedures for agency management and staff on public relations issues and activities; providing external communications and information for DGS' major projects that are of public interest; providing constituent relations to promote awareness, understanding, and support for various programs and projects; representing the agency to various media organizations and entities within the Commonwealth and nationally; coordinating efforts of various bodies, public and private. This position ensures the proper reception, designation and documentation of Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests and will provide direct support to the Directors Office, etc., as needed.
This position will be located in Richmond, Virginia and must report on-site. This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule (telework up to 2 days/week) after 6 months of satisfactory performance.

Minimum Qualifications
•Knowledge of advanced public relations, media and marketing principles, and political and economic interrelationships.
•Advanced professional speaking, writing, and presentation skills to be acceptable at the top levels of government.
•Considerable skill in communicating orally in discussions, meetings, media interviews, and speeches.
•Strong ability to discern communication needs of agency management and to explain complex issues to a wide variety of audiences.
•Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast paced environment
•Experienced writer and communicator demonstrating sound judgement, creative problem-solving skills, and discretion with sensitive or confidential information
•Demonstrated ability to monitor press coverage, vet press inquiries, and drive media opportunities
•Experience in communications, public relations, journalism, or public administration.
•Experience developing, editing and proofreading client-facing media materials - press releases, pitches, media advisories, briefing documents, fact sheets, etc.
•Experience with reactive and proactive media relations
•Experience making decisions in a changing environment while anticipating future needs
•Experience with media monitoring, media list management and compiling media analytics report
•Experienced self-starter who can manage projects independently, a good sense of prioritization and calm under pressure in a fast-paced environment
Additional Considerations
•Experience setting up measurement programs and measuring the ongoing ROI of communications activities
