Job Summary:

The Grant Specialist is a critical member of the philanthropy team at the Upstate Foundation. This position will play a direct role in helping to support the Upstate Foundation’s Mission to receive and administer gifts for charitable purposes with a focus on patient care, education, research, and community health and well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare well-written grant proposals and other correspondences under the supervision of the Director of Grant Management.
  • Strive to build long-term relationships with current and prospective grant funders and create meaningful ways to engage with the work of Upstate.
  • Proactively research, build, and cultivate pipelines of prospective funders, matching their interests with the mission and strategic vision of Upstate to support our highest priorities.
  • Work collaboratively with Upstate Foundation leadership to gather information and materials for proposals, funder updates, and grant reporting.
  • Schedule calls and meetings with current and prospective funders. Build and maintain a portfolio of funders for specific assigned projects.
  • Create reports as needed. Collaborate with the finance department to ensure funded projects are tracked for financial reconciliation, stewardship, and reporting purposes.
  • Organize and maintain donor records, files, reports, and data. Update and maintain a monthly calendar of proposal deadlines and reporting requirements. Assure timely submission of reports as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in a related field and a minimum of 2 years work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Individual must have excellent interpersonal skills, be proficient in Microsoft Office, and be efficient, organized, proactive, and attentive to details.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in healthcare, non-profit setting.
  • Grant writing experience with successful results.
  • Ability to work both independently and interact/communicate effectively with others.
  • Strong time-management skills, highly organized and detail-oriented, with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and projects and meet deadlines.
  • Understanding of the record-keeping and stewardship systems.
  • Competent working with numbers, developing and interpreting project budgets.
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge NXT helpful.

Work Days:

Monday - Friday, Days, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

Based on a 37.5 hour work week.
