Job Description
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Housed within Montclair State University’s John J. Cali School of Music, the Assistant/Associate Professor of Music History (tenure-track) will serve as Head of Music History, teach courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and maintain a research profile in musicology or ethnomusicology. Possible teaching assignments include courses in the School of Music’s three-semester undergraduate Music History sequence, a graduate-level course in musicological research methods, and special topics courses in the successful candidate’s scholarship area. In the role of Head of Music History, this position supervises all adjunct instructors and course content of multi-section Music History and General Music courses, oversees offerings in Montclair’s general education SEEDS program serving 700-800 students throughout the university, manages content and review of comprehensive exams for School of Music graduate students in collaboration with the Music Theory Head, and collaborates with School of Music faculty in curriculum development throughout Montclair’s undergraduate and graduate music programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A PhD, EdD, or DMA degree is required at the time of appointment.
- Demonstrated success in teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level is preferred.
