Job Title: Technical Writer

Location: Wichita, KS

Onsite/ Remote: Day 1 Onsite at customer location

The pay range for this role is $35k- $70k per annum including any bonuses or variable pay. Responsibilities:

  1. Create and revise maintenance documents (maintenance manuals, structural repair manuals, non-destructive testing manuals, tool & equipment manuals, and component maintenance manuals) using engineering database information, engineering drawings, functional tests, and other sources.
  2. Submit work packages to create illustrations that will accompany maintenance document instructions for use in technical publications.
  3. Conduct self and peer quality checks of completed work packages for accuracy and consistency.
  4. Follow established procedures and improve procedures as necessary.
  5. Collaborate with core teams, engineers, and customer service representatives to validate maintenance document procedures.

Qualifications:

  1. Degreed in an aviation related area preferred or equivalent experience authoring technical documents.
  2. A&P license or military aviation maintenance experience with Technical Orders a plus.
  3. Requires an understanding of engineering data, with an ability to research and analyze engineering drawings and technical documents.
  4. Mechanical aptitude with experience and knowledge of aircraft operation, aircraft systems, aircraft maintenance practices, manufacturing and GAMA/ATA guidelines.
  5. Experience using SGML/XML, Arbortext, Adobe FrameMaker or equivalent tool in authoring environment.
  6. Professional and diplomatic demeanor with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Flight Document Author Responsibilities:

  1. Create and revise flight documents (Airplane Flight Manual, Pilot’s Abbreviated Checklists, Operating Manuals, Pilot’s Operating Handbooks, Technical Orders, etc.) using engineering flight test information.
  2. Conduct self and peer quality checks of completed work packages for accuracy and consistency.
  3. Follow established procedures and improve procedures as necessary.
  4. Collaborate with core teams, engineers, and customer service representatives to validate flight document procedures.

Education:

  1. Degreed in an aviation related area preferred or equivalent experience authoring technical documents.
  2. Pilot’s license, A&P license, or military aviation experience with Technical Orders a plus.
