Job Summary
AUSA News is looking for a creative, driven, and experienced Freelance Senior Producer at News 12 NJ to assist in the broadcast of live daily news, newsmagazine, short and long-form programming. The candidate will have experience working in live news, newsmagazine, and documentaries with expertise in writing scripts, shooting, editing, and working within show rundowns. Knowledge of general news, business news, technology innovations, and cultural news is necessary. The candidate must also be able to time multiple hours of live shows from the control room, oversee the show team when the EP is out, and mentor more junior producers. The successful candidate must be a self-starter and an independent worker. At the same time, you must be adaptable and flexible, a team player who can mix easily and work effectively in our small and highly collaborative team. You are expected to be in the office during your shift each day.
Responsibilities
- Determine the best news stories for the newscast, newsmagazine, and long and short-form content, and delegate duties to producers and production assistants.
- Coordinate with the Executive Producer to make great editorial decisions with a keen eye on politics, business, technology, and culture.
- Work with producers on segment development, reporting to the daypart EP.
- Shoot and edit long and short-form packages and segments.
- Time and take charge of the LIVE show in the control room (as needed).
- Communicate with show teams, production teams, and anchors on all show-related rundowns and changes (before, during, and after each show).
- Write news scripts, teases, and promos for live, newsmagazine, short and long-form programming.
- Oversee checks in the control room before each show to ensure all errors are corrected before going live (as needed).
- Build show graphics and elements in rundown software (ENPS) (as needed).
- Generate exceptional story ideas, including breaking news and creative story angles.
- Pinpoint excellent short and long-form packages and segments to be shared with distribution partners.
Qualifications
- Experience in live production.
- Proven track record with long and short-form storytelling.
- Strong experience shooting.
- Proficient with Adobe Premiere editing suite.
- 6+ years of live broadcast and control room experience.
- Excellent research and writing skills.
- Strong grammar, copy editing, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with ENPS or similar rundown program.
- Working knowledge of production and post-production techniques.
- Familiarity with SEO, RSS, X, Facebook, and other social media.
- Organizational skills and ability to work under tight deadlines.

This position is identified as being performed in/or reporting to company operations in New York State. Salary ranges are supplied in compliance with New York State law. Pay is competitive and based on a number of job-related factors, including skills and experience. The starting pay rate/range at the time of hire for this position in the posted location is $59,007.00 - $96,939.00/year. The rate/range provided herein is the anticipated pay at the time of hire, and does not reflect future job opportunity.
