Department Summary
The Government Relations (GR) team advocates for immigration-related legislative, regulatory, and policy reforms before Congress and the executive branch, consistent with AILA's principles and priorities. The GR team tracks the development of law, policy, and practice and prepares resources and information for nearly 17,000 AILA members.
Position Summary
The Content Specialist will play a key role in supporting the Government Relations (GR) and Communications (Comms) teams by curating and managing GR and Comms-related content to enhance visibility, engagement, and impact. This position will involve monitoring AILA communities to understand member needs while working closely with the GR, Comms, and Marketing Departments to ensure timely and effective dissemination of advocacy, practice resources, litigation materials, political engagement tools, press statements, blogs, and relevant articles. The Content Specialist will also monitor government policy and regulatory updates, assist with maintaining the GR team's online presence, and contribute to broader communications initiatives as needed.
Essential Job Functions
Content Curation:
Promote GR-related content and collaborate with AILA's Marketing team to elevate the distribution and marketing of GR products, including advocacy, practice, litigation, client flyers, and political engagement products Monitor relevant AILA listservs and message centers to better understand members' current concerns and interests in practice and policy to ensure that resources are being pushed out or developed in response Create and distribute postings for the GR team to ensure consistent and timely communication Government Policy Monitoring:
Monitor government policy, regulatory updates, and stakeholder announcements to identify relevant information Manage the posting of updates on AILA.org and share them with appropriate listservs Website and Featured Content Management:
Create and maintain content for all GR-related webpages, including Featured Issues Pages in collaboration with GR team members Work with the AILA's Marketing team to identify and highlight key content for promotion Track and manage AILA sign-on letters and congressional endorsements, ensuring timely updates and postings Resource Tracking and Updates:
Update the Trend Tracker with current information Assist in curating practice pointers, alerts, liaison minutes, policy briefs, and other resources Identify existing resources that require updates, recirculation, or removal from the website Additional Support:
Assist with posting Calls for Examples to engage the broader community Provide support to the Comms Department as needed for broader organizational messaging and campaigns Participate in relevant team and committee meetings and provide support at GR Team events Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Government Relations, Journalism, or a related field A minimum of three (3) years of experience in content creation, communications, or a related area, with a strong understanding of government relations and immigration Proven ability to develop and implement comprehensive content strategies that align with organizational goals and audience needs Strong understanding of SEO techniques to enhance content visibility and improve search engine performance Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a portfolio of published work that demonstrates proficiency in crafting compelling, clear, and engaging content Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including Government Relations, Communications, and Marketing Experience with content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Drupal) and familiarity with digital media platforms Proficiency in analyzing data to measure content performance and adjust strategies accordingly Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects with a focus on meeting deadlines Knowledge of current trends in content creation, digital media, and governmental policy/regulatory updates Occasional travel may be required for this role, including attendance at meetings, conferences, or events as necessary to support the organization's initiatives and objectives

Our Remote Work Strategy is designed to ensure connection while minimizing costs and inconvenience. Talent residing within 50 miles of our National Office located in Washington, D.C., located in the nation's capital, will be given preference. For roles outside this, we seek candidates within 50 miles of a major airport. This strategy helps us enhance collaboration, optimize travel costs, and strengthen in-person engagement while ensuring we remain cost-effective and mission-driven. Candidates outside these areas may be considered on a case-by-case basis based on role requirements and organizational needs.
This role requires maintaining a professional demeanor in a remote/office work setting. Responsibilities include extended periods of sitting at a desk, frequent use of a PC workstation for prolonged hours, occasional verbal communication with team members and stakeholders via virtual platforms, and the possibility of lifting or moving items up to 25 pounds, though this is not likely to be a frequent requirement.

The salary range provided reflects a reasonable estimate of the annual salary based on AILA's commitment to equitable and market-competitive pay. The actual salary offered will depend on several factors, including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, years of experience, certifications or professional licenses, job-related skills, internal equity, and business needs.
Our compensation structure is based on industry-specific market data for similar-sized nonprofit organizations. Typically, individuals are hired at or near the starting point of the salary range for their role. Compensation decisions are made on a case-by-case basis, considering the unique facts and circumstances of each applicant.
Additionally, full-time and part-time employees working at least 20 hours per week on a regular basis are eligible to participate in
