Job Summary
Responsible for creating a visible image that can be used in media and print. Uses software and hand-rendering to design products that meet the needs of the client.
Primary responsibilities
Check email
Meet with clients to establish a vision for a product or design.
Select colors, images, textures and shapes to create the layout.
Select the size and arrangement of the different elements.
Use computer software to create electronic versions of designs.
Employ color, type, illustration, photography, animation, and various print and layout techniques when designing project.
Design logos for products and businesses.
Develop signs and environmental graphics.
Create promotional displays, packaging, and marketing brochures.
Submit rough drafts to client for approval.
Make changes to mock-ups.
Secondary Responsibilities
Answer phones
Help customers with their printing needs.
Create Invoices
Cash Handling
Printing (as needed)
Cutting (as needed)
Qualifications:
Knowledge of graphic design software and tools, including:
Adobe InDesign
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Photoshop
Adobe Dreamweaver
Understanding of the printing process and specifications
Familiarity with production and rendering methods, including drawing,
Creative thinking skills
Educational requirements
A degree or certificate from an accredited college or university. Minimum, graphic designers should possess a two-year associate degree in graphic design, though a four-year Bachelor of Fine Arts degree is preferable.
