Position Overview
The PR Manager is responsible for securing editorial coverage for our clients in both local and national outlets. This role requires constant monitoring of trending news to identify opportunities for clients to be positioned as thought leaders by securing high-profile placements across print, broadcast, and online media within a variety of sectors, such as business, finance, health, and tech.

Passionate about media relations, the PR Manager will leverage established media relationships to proactively engage journalists on a daily or weekly basis. They will develop foundational strategies for each client, focusing on both proactive and reactive pitches to connect with the media.

This role includes managing media and influencer lists, ongoing client communication and management, and monitoring and analyzing campaigns to ensure they align with strategic objectives. Additional research on relevant conferences, awards, and events to recommend to clients may be required. The PR Manager will also work closely with clients' internal marketing and communication teams to ensure that all efforts are aligned with the company’s overarching business goals.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has a proven track record of independently managing campaigns. Executive presence is essential—this individual must be confident, articulate, and capable of managing accounts with minimal oversight. They must also possess the ability to effectively engage with senior executives and navigate complex client interactions in high-stakes communications.

Expected Outcomes

  • Successfully execute and deliver all campaigns in alignment with the guidelines and timelines outlined in campaign contracts.
  • Lead the creative development, strategy, and management of 10-12 client campaigns, including establishing project timelines, maintaining content calendars, and overseeing all client update meetings.
  • Ensure full adherence to administrative systems for client accounts while effectively managing support staff and fostering strong relationships with both clients and journalists.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • 5–7+ years of PR experience with a strong background in media relations (established media contacts required)
  • Experience with PR software and media listening tools is required (e.g., Cision, Muck Rack, or Meltwater)
  • Excellent writing and editing abilities (writing samples will be requested)
  • Ability to manage multiple client accounts simultaneously, ideally within a PR agency setting
  • Experience working with thought leaders; corporate brand experience a plus
  • Strong customer relations skills
  • Resourceful and proactive, with the ability to overcome obstacles independently
  • Quick learner with the ability to gain industry- or client-specific knowledge efficiently
  • Deep understanding of industry best practices
  • Bachelor’s degree (4-year college degree required)

Reporting Structure
This role reports directly to the Director of PR Strategy.

Work Environment
We prefer a candidate based in Charleston, SC, who can work in our downtown office two days per week. However, we welcome remote candidates and are excited to explore talent beyond our local area. Non-local hires will be expected to travel periodically to our Charleston headquarters to collaborate with the core team and stay engaged with our company culture.

  • Visual acuity is necessary for reviewing materials and computer work.
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods while completing tasks
