SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Mechanical Designer designs tooling and equipment to be used in the manufacture of large carbon fiber parts and assemblies for aircraft production. They will provide tooling concepts, models, and designs from basic engineering surfaces and customer Statement of Work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Create tool designs from customer supplied part models and specifications. Perform PDR, CDR, FDR design reviews with customer. Internally interface with project managers, programming, and manufacturing departments, including quality and inspection Load models and engineering, interrogate models, create tooling surfaces. Create and release designs and models with con-current design build philosophy. Generate and supply data for off-site fabrication. Freehand concept sketches to quickly communicate and develop designs. Additional duties as assigned by management. REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful job performance will be considered. Typical qualifications would be:
Engineering, manufacturing, or job shop background in aerospace or automotive industries 3+ years of experience with Siemens NX Firm understanding of geometrical dimensioning and tolerancing per ASME. Experience with common drafting principles and practices. Clear written and oral communication skills Must possess Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance and maintain security clearance for the duration of employment. This position must meet Export Control Compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22.C.F.R. is required. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
3+ years of experience with CATIA V5 or V6 Perform trigonometry, stress analysis by hand and FEA, shrink coefficients. Knowledge of manufacturing practices such as fabrication, machining, and assembly Understanding of assembly tool design Broad knowledge of materials and processing, both metallic and composite Microsoft Office Suite proficiency Previous experience with composites and aerospace layup tooling SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Most travel is primarily local during the business day. Some projects may require travel out of the area and overnight stays.

Working conditions described here are representative of those that may be experienced by an employee daily while performing the functions of this job.
Typically sits for extended periods at a computer workstation. May access and work in the manufacturing plant While performing the duties of this job, employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, and airborne particles. The employee may be exposed to vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. May be required to travel to other site locations during the workday. May be required to work weekends to meet department and business demands. Work with safe manufacturing processes and understand that eyewear is mandatory in the manufacturing area. Knows that safety shoes are recommended in the manufacturing area. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
