General Information:
The Student Media Content Creator/Ambassador will work closely with the JMU Social Media Manager and Social Media Assistant on the day-to-day social media creation for the JMU social media accounts. As the Student Social Media Content Creator/Ambassador, you’ll play an important role in the strategy and voice of the JMU social media accounts. You’ll gain hands-on experience working on a brand’s social media presence and will have access to continuing education opportunities. This position is for the Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 semesters. This position will work 10 hours a week with a mix of office hours and event coverage including Move-In and Weeks of Welcome. A flexible schedule is necessary to cover campus events (including athletic events) that occur during the week, evenings and weekends. Applicants must be available to start working the week of August 11, 2025.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Research and develop student-oriented social media content based on emerging trends in Higher Education social media and the broader social media space.
- Lead the creation and posting of trending short-form video content on JMU’s Instagram account, Threads account, and YouTube Shorts.
- Organize and lead on-campus events for the social media team and other University Communications student assistants.
- Create and post engaging content including event coverage for JMU’s Instagram stories and Threads.
- Collaborate with other JMU University Communications interns on short-form video content.
- Collaborate with campus partners on social media campaigns and initiatives.
- Serve as a JMU social media ambassador.
- Assist with other miscellaneous social media responsibilities, including but not limited to: copywriting, writing alt-text for images, inventorying promotional items, brainstorming content for Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Instagram and Threads.
Qualifications:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong understanding of the social media platforms JMU is active on (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X and Threads) and best practices for content creation on social media.
- Experience creating short-form video content, Instagram stories, and social media graphics.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Knowledge of and experience with accessibility best practices for social media creation.
- Ability to work collaboratively and build relationships with students, faculty and staff.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

Conditions of Employment:
- Students must be degree-seeking students, enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).
