Job Summary
Wilberforce University is a small, Liberal Arts University with an Entrepreneurial focus, and a legacy of being the nation’s first private HBCU. The Rembert E. Stokes Library at Wilberforce University is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Archives and Educational Services Librarian. This role requires a combination of archival expertise and instructional skills to preserve the institution’s history while enhancing the educational experience of the university community. The ideal candidate will be adept at both managing archival materials and providing engaging, informative library instruction.
Archives Management
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversee the acquisition, appraisal, processing, preservation, and organization of archival materials, including special collections and university records.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for archival management, ensuring the protection and accessibility of materials.
- Provide reference services and research assistance related to the archives and special collections.
- Digitize archival materials and manage digital preservation initiatives.
- Promote awareness of archival resources through outreach, exhibits, and collaboration with faculty.
Educational Services
- Design, develop, and deliver information literacy instruction sessions, workshops, and online tutorials tailored to the needs of students and faculty.
- Collaborate with faculty to integrate archival materials and information literacy concepts into the curriculum.
- Assess the effectiveness of educational services and instructional programs, using feedback to make continuous improvements.
- Create and maintain research guides, instructional materials, and other resources to support library users.
- Participate in library outreach initiatives to enhance student engagement and academic success.
General Responsibilities
- Stay current with best practices in both archival management and information literacy instruction.
- Participate in library planning, development, and assessment activities.
- Serve on library and university committees, contributing to the overall mission of the institution.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Library Director.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program.
- 3 to 5 years of professional experience in libraries, with a focus on archives and/or educational services.
- Strong knowledge of archival principles, practices, and standards, including digitization and digital preservation.
- Experience in designing and delivering information literacy instruction.
- Proficiency with archival management systems, library management systems, and instructional technologies.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in an academic library setting.
- Familiarity with the ArchivesSpace or similar archival management software.
- Knowledge of digital asset management systems and metadata standards.
- Experience in curriculum development and instructional design.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
