The Operations Team at the RNCM welcomes applications for 2 new full-time Porter roles. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team who are proud to provide an outstanding customer-facing, front-line service in Manchester’s world-renowned music conservatoire and arts centre.

Job Description

The Porter service normally operates between the hours of 07:30 and 22:30 over 7 days per week and provides an essential building-wide service to ensure that the core functions of our institution are always delivered to an excellent standard.

Team members need to be able to communicate effectively, be conscientious, enthusiastic, self-motivated, and want to positively contribute to our vibrant and creative community.

Applicants would be expected to undertake the following duties:

  1. The careful and safe movement of (sometimes heavy) musical instruments and associated equipment.
  2. Preparation of equipment and furniture for functions, and in learning and performance areas.
  3. Assisting in maintaining excellent standards of housekeeping, ensuring rooms are equipped and tidy for users at all times.
  4. Receipt and secure transfer of deliveries, post, etc.
  5. Dealing with student, staff, and visitor requests and enquiries in a polite and professional manner.
  6. Assisting in the delivery of documented Health and Safety Practices within the role.
  7. Being a member of the College's Emergency Response Team with responsibilities that include the safe evacuation of our building users in the event of an emergency.

Proven, practical experience in the manual handling of specialised equipment and/or persons is desirable. Training will be given to successful candidates in the handling of the various instruments and in the different ensemble and orchestral layout arrangements. The role holders are required to work flexibly over the seven days of the week, on a rota-based system that repeats every 6 weeks.
