Position Purpose:

The Manager contributes to and supports execution of fundraising, marketing and communications efforts at Vermont Foodbank, including: implementation of fundraising and general organizational communications strategy on digital platforms; development and implementation of digital fundraising appeals; support for and implementation of programmatic and organizational marketing and communications efforts; and campaigns aimed at donor engagement, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship as well as increasing food access and participation in Vermont Foodbank programs and resources. This position will support strategic organizational use of digital outreach tools and provide support for reporting and analysis for digital outreach and fundraising. They will contribute to content creation, story-gathering and donor relations efforts.


This position is an hourly position. The starting pay for the position is set at $29.46 with eventual potential range ($61,285 to $82,915) placement based on years of experience within VF compensation equity roadmap.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

(percentage effort is a guide for a year-long overall breakdown of work) 40%

Coordinates and implements digital fundraising campaigns

  • With strategy support from team, develops and executes the components of multi-channel digital fundraising campaigns (list requests/pulling with Donor Services team; segmentation; updates; managing matches and other offers; acknowledgements/auto-replies; trouble-shooting; reporting; email drafting, building and sending; creates campaign-specific transaction forms; coordinates web and design needs with Sr. Manager, Design, Website and Marketing)
  • Creates, and collaborates to create, written content across digital channels and ensures that content utilizes strategic, ethical storytelling to achieve goals
  • Responds to donor comments, questions and communications
  • Reports on campaign and campaign component performance
  • Creates and sends monthly e-stories
  • Coordinates with Donor Services team on gift processing, gift intake and gift receipting as it relates to the above

20% Digital and print marketing support

  • Maintains annual calendar of fundraising and digital marketing ads; executes ads under direction from Marketing and Communications team; will be primary liaison with vendors; places print and digital marketing ads as needed; reports and tracks performance of both digital and print advertising/campaigns.
  • Tracks spending and budgets for digital fundraising and organizational and programmatic marketing efforts in coordination with program managers


15% Other Fundraising support:

  • Supports stewardship efforts as needed
  • Supports targeted outreach to key donor segments
  • Assists with reporting and data requests for the Philanthropy, Marketing and Communications Team
  • Creates and maintains transaction forms and landing pages on platforms such as Classy and Blackbaud, optimized for conversion.
  • Stays apprised of best practices for digital fundraising tools and strategies


15% Social media coordination:

  • Coordinates and submits regular content for social media channels with input and support from the Marketing and Communications team; works with staff across Vermont Foodbank to solicit and collect content in alignment with organizational and team goals
  • Maintains monthly editorial calendar
  • Purchases and executes social media and digital advertising
  • Monitors responses and provides customer support by responding to user comments and questions; coordinates response with program staff


10% Organizational support for digital outreach/email tool, online fundraising and transaction forms

  • Utilizes tools to both create and coordinate digital outreach for the Vermont Foodbank; supports main users across organization with email campaigns as needed; trouble-shoots email marketing tool and online fundraising platform questions; maintains account/image library/storage; reports on deliverability and other metrics
  • Supports segmentation and overall performance/health of email lists



Global Functions and Responsibilities

  • Drafts content as-needed and participates in organizational story gathering and storytelling work
  • Work cooperatively and communicates with staff and volunteers to support the mission of the Foodbank to meet and sustain Foodbank goals.
  • Positively contributes to an organizational culture of safe and secure food handling, warehousing and distribution.
  • This position will occasionally be required to travel to other Foodbank locations and to attend required meetings, trainings, etc. Some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
  • The Foodbank relies on volunteers every day to fulfill our mission. All Foodbank employees must support our culture of philanthropy by treating every volunteer with appreciation and respect.
  • In instances of a federal, state or locally declared emergency, Vermont Foodbank is typically considered an essential service and emergency responder; all of its employees may be called in to perform regular or emergent duties.

  • Carry out other tasks as may be specified by the Director of Philanthropy, Marketing & Communications.

Skills/Qualifications:

The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities an individual needs in order to perform this job successfully.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Experience with fundraising, digital marketing, and/or social media preferred
  • 2-4 years of experience in office and customer service preferred

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Commitment to accuracy and detail.
  • Ability to perform well in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and project management skills.

Follow-through on tasks with minimal supervision, and ability to be self-directed.

Language Skills:

  • Excellent oral and written skills.
  • A firm command of the English language.

Technical/Computer Skills:

  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, such as Word, Excel, Teams.
  • Ability to learn and use multiple digital platforms.
  • Experience with email service providers (Mailchimp, iContact), digital fundraising platforms (Classy, Blackbaud), social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) preferred.
  • CRM and database experience (such as Raisers Edge) preferred.
