Dreamscape Learn, a pioneer in the realm of immersive virtual reality learning design, is actively seeking a creative and highly skilled Environment Artist to bring vibrant, lifelike worlds to life. You’ll play a crucial role in building engaging environments that captivate users and push the boundaries of interactive storytelling. This is a 1099 contract role.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Create detailed, immersive 3D environments, including landscapes, architecture, and props, tailored for VR experiences.
  • Collaborate with designers, art directors, and developers to design spaces that enhance gameplay, narrative, and user immersion.
  • Ensure environments perform optimally across VR platforms by balancing high-quality visuals with real-time performance constraints.
  • Implement textures, lighting, and materials to achieve a visually rich and cohesive world aesthetic.
  • Work closely with technical artists and developers to integrate assets into the game engine (i.e., Unity).
  • Iterate based on feedback from creative leads, playtesters, and team members.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve visual or performance issues related to environmental assets.
  • Stay informed on the latest advancements in environment design, VR technology, and industry trends.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in 3D environment art, preferably within the entertainment industry (gaming, film, animation, or VR).
  • Expertise with 3D modeling tools such as Maya, Blender, or 3ds Max.
  • Strong experience in Unity with a focus on creating optimized Realtime environments.
  • Proficiency in texturing and material creation using tools like Substance Painter/Designer, Photoshop, or ZBrush.
  • Proficiency in lighting techniques, including dynamic lighting, Realtime, light baking, and optimization for performance across different platforms.
  • Strong research skills with the ability to source, analyze, and creatively interpret historical, scientific, and existing references to inform artistic work.
  • Understanding of lighting and rendering techniques to create mood and atmosphere in VR.
  • Strong grasp of level design principles, scale, and spatial composition for interactive experiences.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving creative direction while maintaining visual consistency.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience creating assets optimized for both high-end and low-end devices, ensuring performance and visual quality across various platforms.
  • Experience in VR or AR environment creation.
  • Familiarity with procedural asset generation using tools like Houdini.
  • Knowledge of performance optimization techniques for large-scale, interactive environments.
  • Artistic skills such as concept art, painting, or architectural visualization.

Benefits

Monthly rate: $5,000-$6,750 (DOE)
