Gunfire Games is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Artist (mid or senior-level) who will focus on performance optimization and asset management for consoles for our upcoming titles. In this role, there will be a strong emphasis on identifying issues, building tools to optimize and streamline workflows, and effectively partnering with other disciplines to resolve performance problems. The ideal candidate has strong technical and problem-solving skills, a passion for creating procedural content, and a proven track record in optimizing workflows. Required to be a self-starter, must be motivated and able to work with minimal supervision, and must be able to work onsite in Austin, Texas.
What you'll do:
- Performance Profiling and Optimization: Lead efforts in profiling game performance and optimizing asset budgets to ensure smooth and efficient gameplay across various platforms.
- Pipeline Development: Collaborate with programmers to design and implement new tools and workflows for procedurally generated content, with a focus on maintaining optimal performance.
- Technical and Artistic Collaboration: Understand the requirements and constraints of game design, engine, and platform to ensure seamless integration and performance of assets.
- Problem Solving: Assist team members in identifying and resolving performance-related issues during production.
- Communication: Clearly articulate optimization processes and effectively receive and incorporate critical feedback.
- Innovation: Research and implement new techniques and technologies to continuously improve and streamline the art pipeline for better performance.
Who you are:
- You are proficient in Unreal Engine, with strong skills in material creation, blueprint scripting, and tool creation, allowing you to build efficient and high-quality gameplay features.
- You have extensive experience and a proven track record in optimizing game performance, managing asset budgets, and ensuring that all elements are within the project’s performance targets.
- You are experienced with at least one digital content creation tool, such as 3ds Max, Blender, or Substance Painter/Designer, using these tools to craft detailed and optimized assets.
- You have solid organizational skills, consistently adhering to asset budgets and management practices, ensuring that all work is efficiently organized and maintained throughout the project.You have experience with level management and optimization on both PC and consoles, ensuring smooth performance and optimal visual quality across multiple platforms.
- You bring 3+ years of professional game development experience, with a strong understanding of the industry's best practices and workflows.
- You have shipped at least 1 AA/AAA title, contributing to the success of a high-profile project and honing your skills in a fast-paced, high-quality production environment.
- You have excellent time management skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently, ensuring that deadlines are met and quality is never sacrificed.
- You possess excellent communication skills, collaborating effectively with team members and clearly articulating ideas, feedback, and solutions.
- You are able to work physically onsite in Austin, Texas, contributing directly to the team’s success in a collaborative, in-person setting.
- You are based in the U.S. and legally able to work without employer sponsorship for an indefinite period of time.
Bonus XP:
- Experience with Unreal PCG
- Experience with programming languages such as Python or C++
- Understanding of Digital Asset creation for use in Unreal Engine
- Background in environment art, VFX, or technical animation

Pay range: $70,000 - $120,000. Title level (mid/senior) and base pay offered will be based on candidate’s skills, experience, and other professional considerations.
