We are seeking an experienced Senior Designer in Ann Arbor, Michigan that will play a key role within the engineering team, overseeing and coordinating all design-related staff and activities. This position is responsible for managing the performance of the design team by delegating tasks effectively, mitigating risks, and ensuring high-quality output. Responsibilities Manage and coordinate all CAD-related activities and staff; develop and implement Drawing, Model and Documentation standards and protocols for the department. Functions as the master modeler to ensure the designs and models are functionally correct (clearances, tolerances, applicable standards etc.) and accurately convey design intent. Review and approve all designs before they are sent to product engineering. Stay up to date with the latest CAD technology and industry trends. Manage CAD system updates and rollout timing with IT; develop the CAD system data flows and integration with different systems i.e. Altium, SW Electrical, Abaqus, SW PDM and the ERP system to reduce errors and improve design integrity. Collaborates and receives guidance from the Lead Engineers, Managers/Program Planning team to ensure designs meet target requirements; coordinates with the project managers and lead product engineers with scheduling and workload planning estimates. Negotiates workload prioritization and reports on design team progress to meet department goals; tracks drawing releases for compliance to program timing dates. Resolves release system/subsystem conflicts to meet program requirements with quality and ‘on time’ performance. Facilitates and participates in design/virtual reviews, both scheduled and informal, as required. Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures. Performs in a manner that will prevent errors and omissions. Responsible for meeting team targets and key performance indicators. Participate in activities needed to support the management functions of the team. Physical presence on the job is essential and necessary. Other duties as assigned by senior management. Management Responsibilities Daily management and supervision of the CAD team. Train and mentor CAD staff to improve their design skills; maintains a balanced skill sets in design team. Qualifications Education and Experience Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field. 5+ years of experience supervising CAD Designers in a manufacturing environment. Experience in Lithium-Ion battery pack design is a plus. Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Must be comfortable supporting US military-funded work and building products for US military testing and use. Expert knowledge of SolidWorks including administration experience; proficient in Microsoft Office. ITAR REQUIREMENTS: To conform to U.S. Government International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) the individual must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
