POSITION: Writer/Editor and Project Manager

DEPARTMENT: Marketing

REPORTS TO: Director of Creative Services

WORK SCHEDULE: Hybrid work schedule (3 days in office/2 days remote)

PRIMARY FUNCTION: To serve as writer, editor and project manager within the University's Marketing Department: As an active member of the department's creative team, this individual works with schools and departments, as assigned by the director of creative services, to develop, write and proofread content for marketing materials. This includes interacting regularly with the director and assigned graphic designer to ensure consistency in branding, messaging and design in support of enrollment recruitment and other University efforts. This individual meets directly with clients (University staff, faculty, administrators) and is responsible for all details of project management as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English or related field.
  • Minimum four years' experience writing promotional copy and proofreading print and electronic materials.
  • Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills with great attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in rules and application of grammar, punctuation and AP Style.
  • Project management skills and strict adherence to deadlines.
  • Ability to multitask and handle changing priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work professionally with others, including those at executive level.
  • Writing samples.

Preferred:
  • Experience working directly with clients and graphic designers, and managing projects.
  • General understanding of importance of brand and graphic standards.
  • Working knowledge of Macintosh platform and Microsoft Office applications.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Participate in meetings with clients in the schools/departments as assigned to gather information for, assess and discuss promotional materials needed.
  2. Write and edit copy for promotional materials that is geared toward target audience and consistent with the University's current messaging and AP Style.
  3. Manage the production life cycle of a project from writing and design development to delivery of finished materials, including: a. Sending proofs and receiving feedback from clients as assigned; b. Following established workflow and effectively managing projects in order to meet deadlines; c. Updating the Creative Services job log and electronic paperwork for every project in real time, so they are always current; and, d. Adhering to the electronic filing instructions to upload electronic paperwork to server at completion of each project.
  4. Collaborate with graphic designer on each project as needed.
  5. Proofread final PDF or print out of each promotional piece before artwork files are sent to press.
  6. Other related duties as assigned.

Working Environment: Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a normal office setting.

Physical Demands: Frequent computer use at a workstation, up to eight hours per day.
