Library Media Specialist
Description: The E.K. Harry Library of Fishes at the IGFA includes one of the most remarkable single-topic collections in the world. Its reference collection includes more than 15,000 books dating to 1583, several thousand films and videos from the earliest days of big-game angling, thousands of current and vintage photographs, much original artwork, and various artifacts. The library regularly receives magazines and newsletters concerning matters of interest to anglers around the world, and its various collections of fishing-related postage stamps, big-game tournament memorabilia, and vintage angling trophies are unparalleled. Also present is a climate-controlled rare book room where important first editions, early photographs, tackle catalogs, and smaller artifacts are stored.
The Library Media Specialist will leverage their knowledge of library information organization and research skills to maintain the library and the IGFA’s art and artifact assets and, to tell the library’s stories through the creation of engaging and informative digital content for online dissemination to the angling community.
Supervisor: Chief Operating Officer
Description of Responsibilities:
· Update, organize, and maintain the library and the library database
o Overhaul the current library database and incorporate new technologies for the book collection
o Develop, maintain and enforce naming conventions and metadata standards
o Oversee the library's database system, including data integrity, backup procedures, and user access controls
o Maintain the collection and vet newly acquired books, magazines, and memorabilia for inclusion into the library
o Keep the collection in good working condition, direct cleaning crew on cleaning needs, dusting, etc. using appropriate methods so as not to damage any artifacts
- Advise on the disposal of insignificant assets; including magazines and periodicals, duplicate items, and redundant archival holdings
- Help patrons find materials and conduct research
- Work with senior staff and trustees to compile and chronicle key IGFA achievements
· Develop a digital archive of the library’s non-book assets (photos, videos, memorabilia, etc.)
o Incorporate new technologies for an online archive of the library’s non-book assets
o Scan, catalog, tag, and maintain metadata for digital assets to ensure easy retrieval and proper usage
o Enforce naming conventions and metadata standards
o Monitor asset usage and identify potential issues
· Content Creation
o Utilizing the resources in the library, work with the IGFA’s other departments (e.g., Conservation, Education, Angler Recognition, and Marketing) to develop stories, ideas, and content for the IGFA’s various media outlets (website, social media, the International Angler) as well as learning opportunities for IGFA’s members
· Maintain the fixed asset database
o Tag and input information about new fixed asset acquisitions into the database
o Maintain fixed asset inventory lists including those at the IGFA, Johnny Morris Wonders of Wildlife Museum, and the International Women’s Fishing Association.
o Update fixed asset location information as items are moved, disposed, etc.
· Assist the Inventory and Fulfillment Coordinator with monthly inventory counts and cross-train on the inventory management processes and systems
· Assist the Development team with all online auctions including developing photo-assets of auction items and creating auction items online (three auctions per year)
· Attend the IGFA International Auction annually in January and assist the Development team
· Other library related projects as they arise
Educational Requirements:
BA or BS in marketing or public relations
Master's degree in Library Science or related field preferred
Experience and Skills:
· Strong interest in and understanding of the international recreational fishing community, fishing tackle and techniques a plus
· Familiarity with cataloging standards and practices
· Strong computer skills and familiarity with database platforms
· Experience in writing, researching, and editing
· Strong eye for design and visual communication and the ability to enhance textual content with imagery, infographics, and multimedia elements
· Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of the IGFA team
· Ability to plan, organize and manage multiple assignments at once
· Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form
· Ability to interact with IGFA staff, trustees, and members in a professional and positive manner
· Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access
· Proficiency in social media/marketing is a plus
