Our energy system is on the brink of a major transformation, and we’re looking for someone to help us ensure this new system puts rooftop solar energy at the cornerstone!
Reporting to the Director of Marketing and in close collaboration with the Distributed Power Plant (DPP) team, the Campaign & Visual Design Manager will produce messaging, media and design materials to support advocacy goals. They will develop and design print and digital collateral to convey complex information into clear and compelling infographics, charts, stories, and narratives in line with the Solar United Neighbors brand design guidelines. As part of a best-in-class team of communications and marketing professionals, the Campaign & Visual Design Manager will uplift the work of SUN’s mission to build a new energy system with rooftop solar at the cornerstone.
The ideal candidate has a proven track record of campaign management with a speciality in designing collateral with clear and appealing visuals, a passion for data visualization, and has an understanding of, or commitment to SUN’s mission and vision.

Responsibilities
Job responsibilities include:
DPP Campaign Management (45%)
- Create clear, engaging, and informative messaging that supports DPP initiatives.
- Devise and execute public education campaign plans that include visual collateral, social media toolkits, and media outreach.
- Distill complex information into simple language and graphics for multiple audiences and platforms.
- Interpret strategic briefs, evaluate creative approaches in line with organizational goals, and propose design concepts and approaches.
- In collaboration with DPP team members, develop and test educational materials with effective data visualization.
- Create slide decks, web resources, program specific explainers, and other products as needed.
- Manage communications for legislative campaigns, including working with contractors and overseeing coalition resources.
- Design and produce a suite of graphic materials for digital and print, including but not limited to: brochures, flyers, reports, and social media content.
- Serve as internal design expert by collaborating with Director of Marketing and Communications team members to conceptualize, create, and align design projects with organizational goals and campaigns.
- Maintain and update the organization's visual brand guidelines and all existing templates to ensure consistency across all materials.
- Manage iterative design execution in line with stakeholder feedback, and complete and deliver creative assets.
- Curate and edit photos, videos, and graphics; maintain library in Canto.
- Ensure consistency in design and branding across all data visualization and graphic projects.
- Stay current on creative trends and techniques to continually evolve the design bar approach in a manner that is consistent with the brand.
- Provide operational support by managing and tracking projects in Asana.
- Manage external design consultants as needed.
- Other duties as required.
- Show up fully for learning and planning and activities, including all-staff meetings, retreats, and strategy sessions.
- Facilitate meetings, prepare agendas, and take notes.
- As a key member of the team, contribute to brainstorming, developing, and executing new ideas.
- Manage your own regular administration, including timely submission of timesheets, receipts, reimbursements, scheduling, traveling planning, and HR paperwork.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in campaigns and graphic design, with a strong portfolio showcasing previous work, including data visualization.
- Proven track record in campaign execution from start to finish.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and other design tools (e.g., Figma, Canva, Canto.)
- Experience upholding organizational brand identity and guidelines.
- Strong understanding of data visualization principles and best practices.
- Awareness of and commitment to best practices for creating accessible design productions.
- Ability to work collaboratively, independently, proactively, and respectfully in a virtual team environment with multiple audiences.
- Ability to adapt quickly to feedback and revisions.
- Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Creative problem-solving skills with an innovative approach to design.
- Proficiency with several design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), Figma, and Canva.
- Proficiency in, or willingness to learn WordPress, Every Action, Slack, Asana, Mobilize, Hootsuite, and Canto.
- Experience with video production and editing.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to flow with managing multiple projects under shifting conditions.
- Passion for nonprofit work and an understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities in the sector.
- Familiarity with solar energy.
- Spanish fluency
