We are hiring 911 Emergency Communications Call Takers! If you have a passion to serve your community and save lives join our team. No experience necessary since we provide paid training. Deadline to apply is April 30, 2025! We anticipate filling 2-4 positions in 2025. Then candidates will remain on an eligibly list for 12 months for future openings. The selection process takes approximately 4 months so apply now to start the process.

Call Takers answer 311 non emergency and 911 emergency phone calls. They intake information and provide necessary medical instructions. CRESA provides training to become a 911 Call Taker. After a 911 Trainee successfully completes Call Taking they will be placed in a call taker position. If and when a dispatcher position becomes available they will have an opportunity to apply for a promotion to train and become Police and Fire Dispatcher.

911 Communication Call Takers main functions are to answer and process 311 non-emergent requests from both citizens and user agencies, answer and process 911 calls, and perform Emergency Medical Dispatch for callers with medical response needs.

Schedule is a set 40 hour work week. Schedules may be 4 days and 10 hours or 5 days 8 hours or any combination for 2080hrs annual. Overtime is assigned in 2 hour blocks. During training schedule is subject to frequent changes and will follow the assigned trainer schedule which could be a call taker schedule or a dispatcher rotation schedule of 4 days on/4 days off. This position is on-site.

After training schedule selection is based on seniority, therefore new people usually receive a swing or graveyard shift and have to work weekends.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be at least 18 years or older Must be able to legally work in the United States High school diploma or equivalent One or more years work experience involving customer service preferred Excellent communication skills. Excellent computer skills, knowledge and experience. Ability to monitor 4+ computer screens. Accurate and rapid data entry. Proven critical thinking skills. Ability to memorize and recall details, codes and procedures. Attention to detail is essential. Ability to work all days and hours. Including but not limited to swing, graveyard, weekends, holidays and overtime.

911 Call-Taker : Selection Process Overview Application Screening- (Pass/Fail) - All applicants must complete a job application (not just submit a resume) and meet the minimum job qualifications. Candidates who do not meet these qualifications will be notified.

Video Information about Selection Process, Training & working at CRESA 911 - (required) Review this presentation and an email acknowledgement verifying candidate reviewed the video and their availability to work shifts and days. CritiCall Examination- (Required - Pass/Fail) - occurs approximately 1 weeks after step CritiCall is a computerized job skills test focused on data entry speed and accuracy, working memory, multi-tasking, decision-making and following instructions. Candidates are generally notified of their CritiCall score within 2 weeks after completing exam. Must receiving passing scores to continue. Test Ranking (Optional) - If there are 30 or more eligible candidates, they may be test ranked, to determine the top thirty (30) candidates that may immediately proceed to the Oral Board Interview. Panel Interview- (Required - Pass/Fail) -CRESA conducts oral panel interviews. Eligible candidates will receive an invitation. 911 Job Shadow or "Sit-Along"- (required) Candidates will be notified when they are eligible to schedule a 2 hour "sit along" with a 911 Call-Taker or Dispatcher. Final Interview- (Scored, must receive at least 70% or higher to pass) -CRESA conducts behavioral and situational interview with Assistant Operations Manager, Deputy Director or one of their designees. Eligible candidates will receive an invitation - dates to be determined. Eligible List- (Ranked scoring) - Eligible candidates will be ranked based on 40% of their test scores and 60% of the Second Oral Board Interview score. *A special eligibility list for laterals may be created at the request of the Operations Manager which moves them to the top of the ranking order. Background Investigation- (Pass/Fail, conducted in rank order) - Requires detailed Personal History form and comprehensive background investigation with elements including but not limited to candidate's employment history, education, job and personal references, criminal history, driving record check, etc.

Disqualifiers: Felony Convictions, Dishonesty, Falsification, Failure to Disclose, Failure to provide appropriate contact information, Behavior that does not support Public Safety Code of Ethics or CRESA values.

Conditional Job Offer- (Offered in ranked order) - When a vacancy is available, the candidate will receive a conditional job offer of employment, contingent upon successfully passing the post-offer processes. Post-Offer Process- (Pass/Fail) - Post offer processes include a psychological evaluation, fingerprinting criminal review, general medical examinations, drug test and baseline hearing and vision tests. Hire Date, Training and Probation- (Pass/Fail) - Average training is 6 months then after passing training there is a 4 month probation period.
