Commerce Editor, GQ

GQ is looking for a sharp and independent editor to own Style and Fashion topics on the GQ Recommends team, focusing on product recommendations and service journalism for the commerce vertical and shopping platform. The role will plan, assign, edit, and publish a daily lineup of shopping-focused stories across our menswear coverage. This editor will work alongside and help guide a team of style writers, both staff and freelance, and the ideal candidate is adept at organization and multitasking. This role will also have an influence on, and potentially participate in, extensions of GQ Recommends across newsletters, video, the GQ Box, and social media. This role reports to GQ's Associate Commerce Director.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Conceive, assign, edit, and write GQ Recommends shopping content to help GQ meet aggressive revenue goals
  • Manage and execute GQ Recommends weekly, monthly, and seasonal style-focused content calendar, overseeing the workflow of a variety of staff and freelance contributors
  • Grow GQ Recommends content publishing output by recruiting and onboarding new contributors, and improving the quality and efficiency of the work of current staff and freelance contributors
  • Help codify and disseminate commerce optimizations and SEO best practices to content creators
  • Develop and maintain exceptional retail and brand partnerships, and support partnership goals by conceiving, pitching, planning, and executing new content tent poles and franchises to support those partnerships.
  • Take a leadership role in the conception and execution of new shoppable content types across GQ.com and GQ-owned channels, including building native ecom storefronts.
  • Synthesize purchasing data, consumer trends, and competitive analysis to make informed, strategic decisions and assignments that drive commerce KPIs and revenue growth while remaining true to GQ's editorial voice, vision, and rigor.
  • Work with GQ's senior commerce leadership team to achieve editorial excellence throughout GQ Recommends on all platforms, including GQ.com, social, newsletter, and video.
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure all content is optimized for all distribution channels, including search, newsletter, and social media
  • Consistently push Recommends stories to be engaging, relevant, and unique
  • Additional duties as required, or as assigned by manager.


Skills and Qualifications:
  • 4+ years experience writing and editing in a digital media environment focused on fashion and style, with experience in service journalism and affiliate commerce required
  • Deep familiarity with affiliate link programs and SEO best practices
  • Mastery of web and commerce analytics, plus strong ability to measure, report on, and drive strategy based on findings
  • Strong organizational skills, self-directed work style, and polished communication
  • Cross-functional project management experience
  • An understanding of and enthusiasm for style, and menswear in particular

This is a guild position.

The expected base salary range for this position is from $80,000-$94,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.

In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates may also be eligible to receive discretionary bonus compensation.
