JOB SUMMARY:
Provide Music Therapy services in an early childhood education and school age setting for children and/or youth that are at-risk and may have experienced trauma including interventions, assessments, and documentation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
● Bachelor’s Degree in Music Therapy from an approved college (Master’s Degree preferred.)
● Music Therapist-Board Certified (MT-BC) required
● One year minimum experience as a Music Therapist
● Proficient in piano, voice, and guitar
● Experience working with children 2-5, with preferred experience working with children 0-18 years old in at-risk situations
● Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills

● Maintain emotional control and regulation under stress
● Communicate appropriately and respectfully with adults, including staff, caregivers and teachers of the children being served
● Collaborate successfully with Clinical Team Members, Educational Staff, Family Advocates and Interdisciplinary Team Members
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
● Maintain music therapy board certification
● Establish music therapy treatment goals following the assessment process
● Provide classroom interventions (direct and indirect service) and consultation with teachers and parents of children on individual caseload
● Facilitate specialized therapeutic groups (including, but not limited to; prevention, small group, whole class, varying age groups) dependent upon organizational need and Clinical Director’s request
● Facilitate/conduct individual music therapy sessions upon Clinical Director’s request. ● Design and implement music-based interventions to address therapeutic goals in social/emotional, motor, language, and cognitive domains
● Maintain current and accurate documentation on individuals and groups in the database. Documentation is expected to be maintained weekly and must be completed by monthly departmental deadlines
● Provide monthly program updates, data, assessments and other information at requested deadlines
● Provide crisis intervention to children, classrooms and families as needed. This includes responding to intercom calls and helping to “settle” children who are upset ● Write session summaries, reports, observations, client updates, behavior incident forms, referrals as necessary and upon request
● Administer pre/post measures as designated by Clinical Director in a timely manner. ● Provide classroom observations, write ups and clinical recommendations as needed ● Provide parent/caregiver/education via consults, phone, face-to-face or other means as needed
● Assist and advocate for child clients and families
● Clinical staff will contribute constructively to the departments and agency goals as well as being a positive influence to the Clinical team
● Support UMKC practicum students and interns completing fieldwork onsite ● Write/contribute to the music therapy grant report due annually in December ● Part time (or reduced hours) employees will have caseload expectations based on percentage of time spent in the agency
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Indoor office and classroom environment. Socially and emotionally demanding.
