Job Summary :

A

Polysomnographic Technologist

(or Sleep Technologist) performs sleep studies and diagnostic testing to evaluate and diagnose sleep disorders such as insomnia, sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, and other conditions that impact sleep. They are responsible for the setup, monitoring, and analysis of sleep studies, providing detailed reports to assist healthcare providers in diagnosing and treating sleep disorders.

Key Responsibilities :

Conduct overnight and daytime sleep studies using polysomnographic equipment, including EEG, ECG, EMG, and other diagnostic tools. Set up and calibrate sleep study equipment, ensuring proper placement of sensors and electrodes to monitor patient sleep patterns and physiological functions. Monitor patients throughout sleep studies, observing and documenting sleep stages, respiratory patterns, and other physiological data. Assist patients in preparing for sleep studies, explaining the process, and addressing any concerns regarding the study. Record and analyze data collected during sleep studies, identifying abnormalities and documenting findings for interpretation by physicians. Collaborate with sleep specialists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to contribute to the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. Maintain accurate patient records, including sleep study results, test results, and related documentation. Ensure the maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of polysomnographic equipment. Educate patients on sleep health and provide guidance on proper sleep hygiene practices. Stay current on advancements in sleep technology, equipment, and diagnostic techniques through continuing education. Qualifications :

Education : Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy, Polysomnography, or a related field. Certification : Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) certification from the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Experience : Previous experience in sleep studies or polysomnography
