About Our Studio

Dimensional Ink Games (DIG) is a Daybreak Game Company studio located in northwest Austin. Our studio is centered around bringing comic adventures to life. THE OPPORTUNITY

Responsibilities

The Artist, Environment is responsible for creating and modeling efficient structures and objects for games and working with the art team to maintain consistency through the game world in the Live Development Department, reporting to the Executive Producer. This position will be responsible for:

  • Modeling efficient structures and objects using Maya and ZBrush.
  • Taking maps from empty/grey environments to fully populated and polished zones.
  • Creation and application of textures using Photoshop, Maya, ZBrush, and current next-gen tools.
  • Quickly adapt to and use proprietary tools and programs.
  • Work alongside engineers to fix and optimize the tools to the art pipeline when needed.
  • Working with UE4 on content development.
  • Work with the Art team to maintain consistency through the game world.
  • Work with the Design team to ensure game flow is optimal around assets.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to critique your own work for improvement and an autonomous work ethic.

What Craft Expertise You’ll Have

  • Highly Proficient in Maya and Photoshop.
  • Proficient in working with a Physically Based Rendering/Shader system.
  • Proficient with a texture generation software (Substance Designer/Quixel).
  • Highly Proficient in ZBrush, including clean, optimized game-ready meshes and textures.
  • Experience with terrain and terrain textures.
  • Understanding of memory/CPU constraints and how they affect asset creation.
  • Technical understanding of lighting and composition in an environment.
  • Traditional art background, including color theory, composition, and lighting.
  • Strong communication skills and professional work ethics.
  • Goal-oriented focus with the ability to meet strict deadlines while maintaining quality.
  • Ability to quickly learn and implement complex pipelines and systems.
  • Exceptional portfolio demonstrating proficiency in 2D and 3D art.
  • Skilled in translating concepts into environments and expanding on ideas presented.

Other Criteria

  • Years of Experience, Education, and/or Certification:
    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/experience as an Environment Artist.
    • 5 years of experience in game development generating environments using Maya and ZBrush.
    • Shipped at least one AAA product as an Environment Artist.
