Job Description:
WTIC Newstalk 1080 (Connecticut’s number one radio news operation) is looking for an experienced, energetic, enthusiastic, and creative team player for a Part Time News Anchor/Writer position. This position requires anchoring top and bottom hour newscasts, operating the audio board, writing stories, and updating our website.
Applicants must be good writers, have the ability to deliver news quickly and concisely, have some experience with audio boards, an understanding of digital editing, good judgment, the ability to handle several tasks at a time, be a self-starter, and possess a commitment to local news. Must be 110% reliable and have a strong sense of responsibility.
Shift is Saturdays 12pm – 6pm but availability for other fill-in shifts is a plus, including holidays.
Responsibilities
What You'll Do:
- Anchor over the course of multiple hours on WTIC NewsTalk 1080 - including running a board.
- Conceptualize, pitch, produce and record news segments. Gather, write, record, edit and deliver news content including providing live coverage when breaking news occurs.
- Interview news makers.
- Write scripts and ad-lib material for stories.
- Use social media - including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram - during your shift to connect with listeners, promote upcoming stories and interviews, and highlight station content.
- Contribute content - including but not limited to audio, video, and written format - to WTIC.com.
- Develop and research potential news stories.
- Protect the station’s FCC license.
- Other duties as required by management.
Qualifications
Required & Preferred:
- You must be dependable, self-motivated, and agreeable to a flexible work schedule, which may include early mornings, evenings, overnights, and/or weekends.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, and candidates must be able to take a detail-oriented approach to work while meeting tight deadlines.
- You must have experience anchoring and writing news.
- Experience in the Hartford market is a plus.
