Job Description

This position works under the direct supervision of the communications manager to produce print and electronic products to meet the communications needs of NANA. This role is responsible for graphic design, selecting and managing the work of freelance graphic designers and photographers, and maintaining NANA’s digital assets.

Responsibilities

  • Shareholder newsletter, websites, infographics, social media graphics and presentations.
  • Maintains and updates NANA’s visual guidelines and ensures communication materials adhere to those guidelines.
  • Maintains logo files and approves and manages their use.
  • Manages relationships with print vendors.
  • Selects photographers, develops shot lists, and maintains files of photo releases.
  • Creates templates for use by other departments in presentations, reports, posters and more.
  • Maintains NANA’s digital assets and ensures they are tagged for retrieval.
  • Meets all required deadlines.
  • Maintains version control on all design projects.
  • Assists with the drafting and implementation of NANA’s communications plans.
  • Ensures visual communications are culturally appropriate.
  • Assists in maintaining and updating website content using WordPress, ensuring functionality, accessibility, and a user-friendly experience.
  • Maintains positive relationships and works with a wide variety of individuals to deliver NANA’s message while maintaining NANA’s image.
  • Follows the Iñupiat Iḷitqusiat (Iñupiat values) in work relationships and work products.
  • Operates in a climate of confidentiality requiring discretion.
  • Other duties pertinent to the department or unit’s success may also be assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in design or related field or commensurate personal and professional experience.
  • At least four years’ graphic design, web design, media, agency, or related experience required.
  • Must be proficient in a wide variety of software applications including the latest Creative Suite applications (Photoshop, AI, etc.).
  • At least one year of experience in WordPress or web design, including site maintenance, content updates, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skillset.
  • Must demonstrate skills and creativity through a portfolio of work.
  • Must understand material costs and time limits and their impacts on projects and timelines.
  • Must be able to work independently and offer solutions by developing plans, or by implementing and executing solutions.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record to be eligible under NANA’s vehicle insurance policy.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Weather: Indoors – environmentally controlled; requires most or all work to be done inside.

Noise level: The noise level in the work environment is usually that of a standard office atmosphere.

Description of environment: Office building with standard office environment.

Physical requirements: Employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.

Travel: Up to 20% of the time. Employee may travel throughout Alaska and/or to remote locations and may be required to use alternative modes of transportation, including but not limited to snow machines, boats, small airplanes, and ATVs. Travel to and from the worksite will be provided and arranged by NANA.
