Position Summary

Provide reference assistance to faculty, student, staff, and other users of the Center for Music and Media's collections and services. Oversee the Center's full range of public-service operations at selected times during its weekly schedule, including supervision of student employees. Assist the department head/music librarian by providing background research and clerical support towards the acquisition of new materials for the library's collections of recorded and printed music. Maintain usage statistics for the department's collections, facilities, and services. Process requests and returns of the department's holdings located in its offsite storage facility.

Qualifications

Required Education:

High School diploma or equivalent

Preferred Education:

Bachelor's degree or formal coursework in music, or equivalent experience.

Required Experience:

2 years office and customer-service experience, or equivalent experience, including at least 1 year library experience

Preferred Experience:

3 years office and customer-service experience. Supervisory experience.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Broad knowledge of music. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills. The ability to interact on a professional level with a diverse population of students, faculty, and library colleagues. Basic office computing applications (word processing, spreadsheet, database, simple graphic design). Attention to detail.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

Understanding of music as an academic discipline. Knowledge of the commercial record marketplace. Experience with an integrated library system or similar computer applications. Basic reading proficiency in at least one language other than English.
