The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Public Relations Coordinator for the Durham Corps, located in Durham, NC.
JOB SUMMARY:
Plans, supervises, and participates in the preparation of press releases and follows-up on the same to ensure community awareness of all year-round service programs utilizing air and print media and photographs. Develops informational brochures; creates, writes, and coordinates the production of a newsletter. Assists all local officers whenever and wherever public information and/or photography services are needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of The Salvation Army mission and philosophy.
- Knowledge of Christian theology and The Salvation Army doctrine.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of public relations.
- Knowledge of acceptable fund raising methods and strategies.
- Ability to prepare effective printed materials for educational and promotional purposes.
- Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.
- Ability to plan, coordinate, and evaluate fund-raising events.
- Ability to administer a budget and monitors expenditures for compliance with the same.
- Ability to prepare and maintains reports in an accurate and complete manner.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Public Relations, Communications or a related field, and five years experience performing public relations and fund-raising functions through all forms of media with experience as a guest speaker, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
None required.
MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
- Ability to meet attendance requirements.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
- Ability to speak before large groups in person, by radio and television.
- Ability to travel to various locations in order to participate in public meetings, conferences, etc.
- Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
