The California Department of Insurance (CDI) is seeking a dynamic Public Relations Chief with experience as a spokesperson in media and public events and knowledge of video production and coordination to join the Communications and Press Relations Branch (CPRB) and work as a member of our communications team in a supervisory role!

Under the general direction of the Deputy Commissioner, CPRB, the Staff Services Manager (SSM) III coordinates and manages the operations of the Branch to help meet the strategic goals of the department. The SSM III coordinates with the Human Resources Management Division and Facilities and Business Management Division on workforce and budgeting needs of the branch. The incumbent plans, writes and edits external communication designed to inform the public of the objectives and advance the goals of California Department of Insurance (CDI). The SSM III provides a high level of assistance and expertise in a highly complex, sensitive, and dynamic department, administers public relations and marketing campaign/program research, planning, implementation and evaluation functions through subordinate staff. The incumbent assists the Deputy Commissioner in reaching organizational goals by developing and recommending policy and procedures for the branch; this includes evaluating CPRB processes and developing solutions.

This position is designated under the Conflict-of-Interest Code. The position is responsible for making or participating in the making of governmental decisions that may potentially have a material effect on personal financial interests. The appointee is required to complete Form 700 within 30 days of appointment. Failure to comply with the Conflict-of-Interest Code requirements may void the appointment.

Working Conditions

  • The incumbent must be able to work in a high-rise building.
  • The incumbent may telework in accordance with CDI's Telework Policy. Teleworking employees may be required to report to their headquarters office location on designated telework days. Travel expenses are not reimbursed, however other authorized transit subsidies do exist for those who qualify.
  • Travel may be required.
