Position Purpose: The Design Manager is responsible for overseeing the entire design process on a project, coordinating a team of designers, ensuring the design meets project goals, stays within budget and timeline, and aligns with State of Play Hospitality's needs, while maintaining high quality design standards by managing creative direction and providing feedback to designers throughout the project lifecycle; essentially bridging the gap between the creative vision and practical execution.
Position Responsibilities: Team Leadership: Select and manage an external team of designers to foster a collaborative, proactive project design team. Project Management: Oversee design projects from concept to completion, setting timelines, managing budgets, and ensuring deliverables are met on time. Design Quality Control: Review and approve design work, ensuring consistency with brand guidelines, user experience, and project requirements. Strategic Planning: Develop design strategies aligned with business goals, identifying design trends and opportunities for innovation. Stakeholder Communication: Coordinate with other departments like marketing, operations, construction and development to ensure a smooth project execution. Design Process Improvement: Identify areas for improvement in the design workflow and implement new processes to enhance efficiency including refining the prototype. Requirements & Minimum Qualifications: Design Expertise: Possess a strong understanding of design principles, visual aesthetics, user experience design, and current design trends. Leadership Skills: Ability to motivate and manage a design team, providing clear direction and constructive feedback. Can lead within a fast-paced environment and deliver amidst demanding timelines. Project Management Skills: Proven ability to plan, execute and monitor projects to meet deadlines and budget constraints. Be an action oriented, a self starter and collaborator who develops positive working relationships at all levels. Communications Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication to effectively interact with internal operators, stakeholders, contractors and design team. Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify and resolve design challenges, making informed decisions to overcome obstacles. Technical Experience: Masters Degree in Architecture. 10-15 years of proven experience in architectural design and design management preferably with 5 years from a hospitality brand. Technical Skills: Fully proficient in AutoCAD, Revit and Sketchup. Cultural Fit: Can have fun and showcase that fun personality while being highly organized, with impeccable attention to detail. Be able to actively demonstrate and encourage the State of Play leadership principles.
