The Marketing and Media Relations Coordinator serves as the Public Information Officer (PIO) for the Denison Police Department, overseeing all public communication efforts, including media relations, social media, and community outreach. This position is responsible for maintaining transparency and fostering positive relationships between the department and the community by ensuring timely and accurate dissemination of information.

Key responsibilities include managing internal and external communications, preparing and distributing press releases, responding to media inquiries, and serving as the department's spokesperson. The role also involves collaborating with city officials, media outlets, and community stakeholders to promote public safety initiatives, emergency updates, and department programs. Strong writing, public speaking, and crisis communication skills are essential, along with the ability to engage effectively with diverse audiences to enhance trust and community partnerships. Examples of Duties ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Coordinate with the Chief of Police, department staff (both sworn and civilian), and local media outlets. Develop and implement public relations initiatives, ensuring effective project management from start to completion. Write and distribute press releases, media advisories, and other communication materials, ensuring accuracy and relevance. Serve as the department's primary media liaison, providing 24/7 media support, conducting on-scene interviews, and managing crisis communication. Oversee internal and external department publications and communications, including on-air interviews for television, radio, and social media. Monitor and engage with internal and external stakeholders through social media to maintain the department's public image. Play a key role in recruitment efforts by working with promotional agencies to enhance awareness. Stay current on social media trends to improve engagement and outreach. Maintain and update the department's website with accurate information on community initiatives, safety awareness, and promotions. Collaborate with local marketing professionals for promotional photos and videos. Manage brand consistency across internal designs, including social media content, brochures, flyers, and website graphics. Assist city communication and engagement teams with strategic initiatives and brand management. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Strong writing skills, including drafting press releases, social media content, and public safety announcements. Confident public speaking ability, including serving as the department's spokesperson. Experience in creating engaging content, monitoring trends, and responding to public inquiries. Ability to handle sensitive information and deliver timely updates during emergencies. Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with media, city officials, and community partners. Expertise in communication strategies to enhance public awareness and promote department initiatives. Ability to manage multiple tasks and work efficiently under high-stress conditions. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, editing software (content, video, brand management), and digital camera/video recorder operation. Knowledge of social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube) and current trends. Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Typical Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in utilizing social media for mass communication is desired. Must obtain the following certifications within six months of hire:

State of Texas Notary Open Records Certification NCIC/TCIC Certification

Valid Texas Class C Driver's License. Driving record must meet the standards for coverage under the City's auto liability policy. PREFERRED QUALIFICATION Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field. Experience in communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field. Experience in press release preparation, mass communication, and/or broadcasting.
