The Duke Law Library seeks a well-rounded, skilled person to join our staff. Reporting to the Assistant Director for Cataloging & Metadata Services, the Library Associate at Goodson Law Library performs cataloging, content management, preservation, access services, outreach, and other related tasks. General areas of responsibility for this position include bibliographic control, Duke Law School archives, the Duke Law history website, the Law School institutional repository, the faculty bibliography database, digital collections, and the preservation of special collections and other Library materials. The Associate may supervise the work of student assistants and interns.

Responsibilities
Cataloging, Metadata & Archives
Using Alma and OCLC Connexion, the Associate performs tasks related to bibliographic and authority control of library resources and materials, ensuring access and retrieval. This includes planning and coordinating activities related to acquisition, assessment, arrangement, curation, description, and preservation of archival collections, Law School history materials, and other Library materials. Additional responsibilities also include binding, preservation, and other tasks necessary to provide exceptional access to library materials and resources.
Specific duties include: Use national standards and industry tools to create descriptions and access points for newly acquired monographs. Develop expertise in and provide support for physical preservation of Library materials. Create and update archival descriptions for Law Library-managed archives in ArchivesSpace. Process, organize, and describe newly acquired archival collections using best practices. Maintain access to archival materials through finding aids and the library website. Content & Digital Asset Management
Using various systems and working in several platforms, the Associate carries out tasks related to managing digital content created, curated, and managed by the Law School and Law Library. They also develop expertise and support digital projects and initiatives related to metadata, content access, and digital preservation. Similarly, the Associate will collaborate with other Law School and University departments to develop and support new content areas for digital initiatives.
Specific duties include:
Manage Law School created digital content throughout all managed platforms and properties including the Law School website, YouTube, and WarpWire. Perform tasks related to digital asset management across many media types, including video and photographs. Conduct digital preservation activities on Law School-created and managed digital content. Create and maintain metadata for Law School-created digital content, including YouTube video, archived digital video, and photographic content. Acquire and organize media releases for related digital content, including sponsored events and named lectures. Serve as point of contact for posting new student-edited journal content to Law School repository and third-party publishers. Maintain and develop Law School history web presence, including updates to historical faculty web pages. Digitize print materials and media, including video and photographs. Curate digital and physical exhibits of Library collections. Coordinate with other Law School departments to identify and ensure retention and preservation of law school publications, websites, and other materials of potential archival value. Access & Collection Services
Working with staff and library users, the Associate works with the library access services department and collection management team. They participate in Circulation/Reserve desk coverage regularly. They also work with the collection management team, especially with binding and preserving library materials.
Specific duties include:
Participate in Circulation/Reserve service desk coverage rotation as assigned. Assist with research questions about Law School history using archives and special collections material. Use ABLE and Alma library management systems to prepare and process Library materials for binding. Prepare materials for library preservation vendors. Other Tasks & Responsibilities
As necessary, the Associate may be assigned other tasks and responsibilities, including:
Conduct activities related to outreach using archives and special collections, which includes contributing to relevant Law Library working groups and teams. Serve on hiring committees, standing Law Library, Duke University Libraries, Law School committees, ad hoc committees, and working groups. Collaborate with University partners, including other libraries and with University Archives where needed. Other administrative duties may also be assigned, along with other tasks and duties that are necessary for Library operations.
Education
Required:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience. Experience

Requires two years of library experience to obtain specialized knowledge of library systems and procedures; excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; able to work independently and as a member of a team; high proficiency using computer-based technology and ability to adapt to new technologies; ability to effectively organize and prioritize daily work; demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding customer services. Prior experience working in an academic research library, prior supervisory experience. Skills
Excellent problem solving, analytical, organizational and project management skills. Familiarity with library software systems and tools like Ex Libris Alma and OCLC ILLiad. Skills and knowledge related to library cataloging standards and tools, including MARC21, RDA, and OCLC Connexion. Ability to create and edit digital content using tools like Adobe Creative Suite.
Anticipated Pay Range :
Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD 49,405 to USD 64,250. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
