JOB SUMMARY
Jacob’s Pillow seeks a VIDEO SUPERVISOR to join the Production Department and work closely with/report directly to the Director of Technical Production (DoTP). The Video Supervisor directs and manages the Production Department’s Technology Team. They are responsible for the planning, preparation, and execution of the video elements of all activity within the Ted Shawn Theatre (TST), the Doris Duke Theatre (DDT) as well as ancillary spaces across the campus.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain a safe, healthy, and accessible work environment at all times.
- Actively participate in communication with visiting companies to ensure clear communication about The Pillow’s facilities and equipment as well as to assess any additional equipment or labor that will be needed to execute each company’s vision.
- Manage the preparation, installation, operation, and maintenance of all video and advanced production technology systems of all activity across campus including in the theaters, studios, exhibits, dining facilities, and informational kiosks.
- Assist in the creation of seasonal and production-specific purchase and rental orders.
- Act as the primary point of contact for all video-related vendors working closely with the Production Administrator to facilitate purchase or rental deliveries, pick-ups, or shipments.
- Supervise and support the Creative Technologist.
- Actively participate in the training and mentorship of the Production Intern Cohort including teaching hands-on and practical classes and workshops.
- Advise the DoTP on any necessary improvements to The Pillow’s Video infrastructure and equipment.
- Maintain departmental and production-specific budgets, paperwork, and schedules as needed.
- Oversee the creation of any necessary paperwork.
- Remain in constant communication with all Production Managers to ensure proper and necessary support for each production or event.
- Assist the Production Administrator in the scheduling of Seasonal Production Staff, Interns, and overhire.
- Actively participate in work calls, technical rehearsals, or performances as needed including by acting as video engineer as needed.
- Coordinate with the Jacob’s Pillow Media Team to ensure they have access to the necessary production systems and equipment to be able to successfully record productions and events.
- Support and assist with the installation and operation of the Season Opening Gala and special events as needed.
- Complete Adult/Child CPR, First Aid, and Cultural Competence Training (provided to all seasonal staff during the pre-season).
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 4 years of related experience in Video Engineering and production or departmental management for live performance.
- Advanced knowledge of and the ability to instruct others on the installation and use of theatrical video systems as well as departmental standard operating procedures.
- Knowledge of production-related health and safety best practices and ability to identify and correct potential hazards.
- Proficiency with Google App suite as well as industry-standard video applications such as Isadora, Qlab, Watchout, Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve.
- Experience with budgeting and scheduling.
- Ability to work proactively, creatively, flexibly, and collaboratively.
- Willingness to learn.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION
- Valid driver’s license.
- Knowledge and experience working in dance production.
- Experience working and/or teaching in a performing arts educational environment.
- Experience with audio systems, equipment, and software.
- Experience with advanced production technology such as augmented reality, virtual reality or robotics.
- Experience managing outdoor or non-conventional performance venues or productions.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Working regularly in wooded areas with exposure to native wildlife including, but not limited to, rodents, ticks, and mosquitos.
- Working regularly outdoors in all weather conditions including inclement weather.
- Working a 6-day work week including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends.
- Moving equipment up to 50 lbs alone or with assistance.
- Moving through and between multiple locations throughout the entire campus.
- Remaining in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
- Working at heights above 6 feet and up to 30 feet.
- Ascending and descending straight and step ladders.
- Operating push around or drivable person lifts including at heights.
- Working in show conditions with theatrical and atmospheric elements including but not limited to: fog, haze, strobes, dim lights, and loud sounds.
