Univision 45 is currently accepting resumes for an Assignment Desk Editor based in Houston, Texas.
The Assignment Desk Editor is responsible for managing story assignments, coordinating logistics, and responding to breaking news. Candidates should be creative thinkers able to conceptualize interactive projects for broadcast and online components for our news digital platforms.

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY: (aka Responsibilities)
- Generate research, verify, plan, and develop story ideas and breaking news for newscasts and digital platforms.
- Coordinate editorial meetings.
- Assign stories for various newscasts and schedule interviews for the morning newscast.
- Dispatch crews to stories and breaking news, using appropriate logistical and journalistic judgment.
- Maintain a plan for daily, weekly, and future story lists.
- Act as a liaison with other news organizations, community contacts, and UTG assignment desks.
- Make calls to news sources as needed, gaining appropriate information.
- Assist in finding stories, doing research, and tracking story ideas with emphasis on key brand points.
- Monitor a variety of sources, including social media, wires, and local news, and evaluate newsworthiness.
- Work under pressure, manage breaking news, and meet strict deadlines.
- Work weekends, holidays, and overnights if needed.
YOU HAVE: (aka Qualifications)
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a large or medium market as Assignment Editor, news producer, or in a content newsgathering role.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications/New Media.
- Strong news judgment.
- Strong logistical ability.
- Knowledge of current affairs.
- Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with sources.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and disciplined, able to manage multiple tasks/responsibilities while working with tight deadlines.
- Creative and assertive.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, iNews, live feeds, and social media platforms.
- Fluent in English and Spanish.
