The West Vancouver Memorial Library (WVML) has an opening for a replacement temporary part-time Librarian I position in the Youth Department working with preschoolers, kids, teens, families, and educators. WVML’s Youth Department is high-functioning, innovative, inclusive, and proud to serve the community of West Vancouver. We anticipate a Monday-Thursday schedule (including Monday evenings) or a Sunday-Wednesday schedule, beginning in late March or early April until September 2025, approximately.
Duties may change based upon operational needs and may include, but are not limited to:
- Providing patrons of all ages with expert and enthusiastic reader’s advisory, research support and instruction at our Youth Department Information Desk and while roving;
- Planning and implementing developmentally appropriate and forward-thinking programming, ranging from early years storytimes to teen volunteer meetings;
- Being responsible for a robust outreach programming portfolio, including Reading Link Challenge, Summer Reading Club, school tours/visits, and more;
- Coordinating our popular Teen Volunteer Program (including training and monitoring teen volunteers) and Teen Advisory Group;
- Managing assigned Youth Department collections in assigned formats– including selection of materials for purchase, analysis of collections and use, inventory, and coordination of systematic weeding;
- Maintaining and building our rich partnerships and relationships with schools in West Vancouver, community groups and other organizations;
- Collaborating on projects with staff across Library departments;
- Acting as a Designated Staff Member in Charge on evenings and/or weekends.
The ideal candidate will possess: a Master’s Degree in library and information science from an accredited school; minimum of one year of experience working as a Librarian or Student Librarian. The successful candidate will have excellent oral and written communication skills; an anticipatory and flexible mindset; demonstrated problem-solving, time management and creative thinking capabilities; the ability to manage a diverse set of responsibilities and competing priorities. A passion for working with young people and the adults who support them; deep knowledge and love of children’s and young adult literature and media; comfort with and curiosity about emerging technologies and commitment to continuous learning and development will be an asset. The ability to use a variety of tools essential to the Library, including Bibliocommons, Sierra Integrated Library System (ILS system), Excel and CMS (content management system); instructional and/or presentation skills will also be an asset.
The successful candidate is required to supply a Vulnerable Sector police information check and a copy of their credentials.

Hours of Work:
30 hours per week (hours and days of work may vary)
Starting Rate of Pay:
$40.13 per hour plus 14% in lieu of benefits
(This position has a pay structure with five steps which increase annually.)
