The Library Adjunct is a Faculty position, typically working 12-16 hours per week. Library Adjuncts teach Information Literacy to LCCC on a one-on-one basis from the main library desk.
Job Summary:

LCCC supports adjunct faculty by providing an environment conducive to excellent teaching and learning, classroom equipment and supplies, and resources to meet the challenges that arise in the course of teaching.
Adjunct Instructor, Library is a part-time, non-benefitted position, employed without any obligation or promise of continued future employment and offered competitive compensation. LCCC provides resources to its adjunct faculty and support systems are in place to assist all faculty in supporting student success through excellent instruction. These supports are outlined in detail in the LCCC Faculty Handbook, which serves as a vital reference to policies and procedures impacting all faculty of the College. All LCCC faculty are supported by the Faculty Academy within the Center for Excellence in Teaching.
Adjunct faculty must notify the dean of the school in which they teach if they are employed in another position at LCCC.
Salary: $22.65 per hour.
Starting Date: Fall 2023 semester.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions: This position is exempt from compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA. This listing of essential duties is not all-inclusive; other duties may be assigned.
Responsibilities include:
Teaching:
- Provide individual research instruction at the library service desk.
- Teach assigned classes as per course plan and schedule (primarily evenings and weekends).
Curriculum Development:
- Participate in collection development and maintenance.
- Maintain and adapt curriculum that is current, effective, and appropriate to course and program competencies.
- Develop and maintain instructional materials to support course and program competencies.
Instructional Delivery:
- Foster a supportive learning environment that encourages student success.
- Incorporate current subject matter expertise into instruction.
- Utilize varied learning activities to maximize student engagement and success.
- Employ relevant teaching tools, strategies, and classroom technologies.
- Ensure a safe and clean environment for users and employees by reporting facilities or security issues to the appropriate parties.
Assessment of Student Learning and Continuous Improvement:
- Track interactions with patrons using the library’s designated software system(s).
- Comply with College procedures, practices, and deadlines related to instructional delivery and reporting requirements.
Communication:
- Collaborate with the team to ensure high-level customer service.
- Report and actively follow up with system outages or technological issues that affect users’ ability to utilize library services.
- Utilize LCCC email accounts to communicate with students, colleagues, and supervisors.
- Adhere to regulations established by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Training:
- Maintain current subject matter expertise and expand knowledge through professional development.
- Engage in professional development activities as directed by the supervisor.
- Complete orientation and mandatory training required of all employees.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
All LCCC faculty are expected to demonstrate proficiency in the competency areas defined in the College’s Administrative Procedure 2.17.1P. Requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities include:
Knowledge:
- Best practices in area of instruction and course development.
- Course preparation.
- Classroom and time management.
- Instructional strategies and content delivery.
- Developing learning resources and activities.
- Curriculum development and assessment strategies.
- Library operations including cataloging, purchasing, and program development.
Skills:
- Use of a learning management system in instruction.
- Proficient in personal computing applications, specifically Microsoft Office Suite.
- Understanding of database structure and leverage.
Abilities:
- Manage conflicts and disagreements in a classroom setting.
- Recognize and celebrate interpersonal and cultural diversity.
- Modify behavior in response to new information or student needs.
- Present and express ideas clearly and concisely.
- Actively listen to achieve understanding.
- Analyze problems and determine solutions.
- Utilize evidence/data to assess teaching effectiveness.
- Work cooperatively with other faculty to develop an effective information literacy program.
Physical/Mental Demands:
- Maintain confidentiality regarding employee, student, and donor data.
- Comply with inflexible deadlines; multiple urgent task completions may be required.
- Variable work schedule may include long workdays, evenings, and weekends.
- Interact professionally with individuals expressing strong emotions.
- Frequent movement around assigned work areas, including hallways and meeting rooms.
- Prolonged sitting, standing, and computer use may be required.
- Must frequently lift/move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to shift focus quickly due to interruptions and track multiple projects.
- Moderate noise level in the work environment; unexpected loud sounds may occur.

Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with significant coursework towards an MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited program.
- Minimum of 2 years’ customer service experience, preferably in a library or research setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Information Science, Library & Learning Science, or a closely related field.
- One year of experience working in an academic library or instructional setting.
- One year of teaching in higher education.
- One year of Information literacy instruction experience.
- One year of experience supporting research and program development.
