Main Purpose of Job: Join Us in Making a Difference at DJS! The Maryland Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) is dedicated to transforming young lives, creating safer communities, and fostering equitable systems. We are seeking passionate individuals for the Personalized Learning and Library Coordinator (Coordinator of Correctional Education Programs) role. The Juvenile Services Education Program (JSEP) is responsible for providing comprehensive educational services to students placed in a DJS operated detention and/or residential facility. This position will provide leadership and direction for the comprehensive and effective development of personalized learning programs, which include accelerated learning, intervention, alternative learning, and library media programs within JSEP. Responsibilities include working cooperatively with various coordinators to develop, implement, and evaluate personalized learning programs, managing library media specialists, overseeing Online Programming and Library Media Services for JSEP, and assisting teachers and administrators in curriculum, instruction, assessment, and organizational goals. This position is not eligible for a hybrid telework schedule and will require onsite presence.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Possession of a Master’s Degree or equivalent 36 credit hours of post-baccalaureate course work in Education or Education Administration/Supervision or a Maryland Advanced Professional Teaching Certificate in Secondary Education or Education Administration/Supervision or eligibility for a Maryland Advanced Professional Teaching Certificate.
Experience: Three years of administrative, supervisory or teaching experience directly related to the assigned core program area in an education program providing services to an institutionalized or disadvantaged population.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of educational administration, curriculum, and staff development. Knowledge of the principles and practices in teaching juvenile and/or institutionalized learners. Knowledge of the educational needs of disadvantaged and special populations. Master's degree (or higher) in Library & Information Sciences.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS: Teachers in State operated school programs are required to acquire and maintain certification to teach in the State of Maryland per Section 6-101 of the Education Article of the Annotated Code and Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) 13A.12.01.03B(2). Applicants recommended for appointment will be required to complete an Authorization and Verification of Credentials.
